Mach Xtreme GX 16 GB USB 3.0 Review

Value and Conclusion

  • The Mach Xtreme GX USB 3.0 Flash drive sells for around 29 Euro
  • Adequate price
  • Excellent read performance with turbo tool
  • Good read performance without turbo tool
  • USB 3.0 speeds as advertised
  • Slim design
  • Green activity LED on the end
  • Available in 8, 16, 32, 64 GB
  • 2 years warranty
  • Slow write performance in USB 3.0 and USB 2.0
  • 8 GB variant slower than larger capacities
  • Turbo tool may not be at user's disposal all the time
  • Other drives offer better read/write performance for the same money, when not taking the Turbo tool into account
Mach Xtreme made a splash with the FX series and their Sandforce SSDs - both of which we reviewed. The GX series of drives is intended to take on the mainstream market and it advertises great read and write performance. Advertised read speed can be attained, but only with the help of the Turbo tool, the performance under normal conditions is much more in line with what you can expect to see from a drive of this price range. The write speeds can only be attained under ideal conditions, but in real life the unit is slower. Then in USB 2.0 things look similar, with good read performance but slow write benchmarks. At a price point of only 30 Euros for a 16 GB USB 3.0 stick you cannot expect to find a super speedy stick, and while the Mach Xtreme GX stick does manage to deliver the advertised speeds in very specific usage scenarios, overall performance is simply not on par with other drives in the same price range.
