The RAT 8 is a high quality ergonomic mouse with excellent performance on top of a shape that can be adjusted to properly fit many grip-styles and differently sized hands. Its sensor, the PixArt 3360, is the best sensor currently, offering unparalleled tracking speed and accuracy. The RAT 8 is also nicely presented in a representative box, and even the pouches for its modular parts feel like quality.
The main buttons have a good quality click and use reliable 50M switches. Even its other buttons with the small PCB switches give good feedback and don't suffer from pre-travel. The only thing to improve here would be button latency, but 7 ms more than the current best-in-class is not a deal breaker.
The software is very intuitive to use and allows for a lot of customization when it comes to the RAT 8's mouse actions and look. More importantly, settings and macros can be saved to the mouse in up to four profiles you can even access on any other computer without having to install the software. This is how it should be handled.
The biggest negative for me is the weight because at 138g, it really tires my arm out after using it for longer periods of time. It's also cumbersome to do micro adjustments with heavier weights, which I feel affects my performance in games.
For the quality of the mouse, the high quality components used, and the customization options for the shell, the RAT 8 comes at a significant but very reasonable price.
