Introduction
Meze by Antonio Meze almost sounds like a fashion brand, and there is some merit to that as we go about examining what comes out of this 10-year-old company from Romania. The team behind Meze Audio is small, so much so that the founder still goes about working long hours to see his vision executed to his satisfaction. Meze has recently been in the news for its latest flagship, the Meze Audio Elite for $4000 aiming to set a new benchmark for headphones. What we are reviewing today is a far step off from that number, one of the company's most accessible set of headphones—the 99 Neo. Thanks to Meze Audio for helping arrange a review sample for TechPowerUp!
Meze Audio made a strong name for itself with the
99 Classics, which also introduced a successful design language combining build quality and appealing aesthetics. A
collaboration with Drop aside, the subject of this review—the Meze Audio 99 Neo, often just referred to as the Meze 99 Neo—brings the same closed-back design to an even lower price. There are promises galore on how this is for the "uptown audiophile" and combines the company "signature sound quality with cutting edge style." It has been a few years since launch, so let's find out how well these bold statements hold up as we begin the review with a look at the product specifications in the table below.
