Montech Gamma II 650 Watt 80 Plus Gold

Montech also included their Gamma II 650 W PSU with the chassis, which ships in a basic cardboard box, just like most power supplies out there. This is an 80 Plus Gold unit with flat, firmly attached cables, which makes it a more affordable high-efficiency option.

You will get the usual mounting screws and power cable with the unit, along with some generic paperwork.

The Gamma II PUS sports a 120 mm fan and comes with a solid metal housing. Thanks to the yellow sticker, it will always easily be spotted within a system, while the flat cables should come in handy when trying to route them to keep things clean within the system. Such cables are a good compromise between a modular unit and the really affordable, affixed but round cable options out there.

Once installed, the Gamma II logo is unfortunately upside down, and will be for the vast majority of traditional setups these days. Montech should turn the logo around for the best branding effect.

Z3 PRO ARGB PWM Fans

On top of that, we received a 3-pack of their latest Z3 Pro ARGB PWM fans, which come in a compact cardboard box. The packaging shows the three fans in the front and has some marketing bulletin points on the back.

As is the case with most 3-packs out there, this one also ships with a fan controller, which happens to be the same as the one inside the Air X chassis, but in a plastic housing. That casing comes with magnets, so it is easily placed anywhere inside your system. Montech also includes a remote control, which makes me wonder whether the Air X could have shipped with one as well.

On one side of the fan controller are six PWM fan plugs as the PCB also acts as a hub, so it in turn only occupies a single motherboard header. On the opposite side are four 3-pin ARGB connectors, with two more at the end of the PCB. The main controls are connected on the other end, consisting of ARGB signal pass-through from the motherboard, power delivery, and a 2-pin connector to use your reset cable as an RGB toggle switch instead.

The fans themselves are sturdy and well built. Each fan comes with rubber-lined corners as an anti-vibration measure and black cables for nice contrast.

While most fans have labels for flow direction, Montech went as far as to include that in the design with angled lines across the frame of the fan. Just as the name suggests, the Z3 PRO PWM comes with a 4-pin header for power and control and a separate, generic 3-pin lead for the hub-mounted ARGB LEDs.

Once installed, the fans really help illuminate the interior of the case, and as the built-in fan controller of the Air X is identical to the one that ships with the fans, everything matches up perfectly.
