The Montech King 65 Pro clocks in at that magical $100 mark and managed to still be a good deal considering its included fans. But, unlike the King 95 Pro, which has a $150 MSRP, it doesn't manage to provide nearly as many USPs to set itself apart from the competition.
With the Montech King 65 Pro sharing the same tooling for the body as the King 95 Pro, it is nice to have that same functionality at a lower price point, which makes this much more accessible to a larger target audience. You still get two 140 mm reverse intake fans on the side, the spacious interior and solid construction quality with thick steel and glass panels. While things like the top and side panels were simplified as well, this was done in a very mindful fashion, still providing a solid feel and essentially similar functionality.
Naturally, even with that simplification of straight glass and simpler metal panels, Montech had to find a total of $50 somewhere and clearly focused on accessories first and foremost. You won't get a cool plastic box for your screws or HDD mounting plate - neither of those aspects are a big deal. Also, very apparent is the reduction in number of fans and the lack of external ARGB elements. But by still including three well-chosen ARGB cooling units, the King 65 Pro will adequately appease the mainstream consumer, as many dual-chamber enclosures skip on fans completely.
However, there are some cost saving measures that seem to go a bit too far. The above should have been enough to achieve the price point. Unfortunately, also omitting that additional vented front panel means you are paying for tooling and features that can no longer be used. Lastly, getting rid of grommets saves so little but has such a big impact on a clean build that it is hard to justify at all.
All this would be fine, but Montech also takes a step back from things that we praised in the King 95 Pro, like the clear glass panels - instead offering the King 65 Pro with heavy tinted ones - something that almost everyone in the market stays clear of these days.
Overall, while we really felt that the King 95 Pro brought so much uniqueness to the table to deserve the awards it got, things aren't quite so clear with the King 65 Pro. We can absolutely recommend it as a case with great functionality and fan setup for the price, but the heavy tint may simply be a dealbreaker purely on its own. For those, the white variant luckily sports clear glass and could be an option.
