Durability
Because it's a hybrid mat it's slightly more durable than a normal cloth mat due to the fact that the surface is coated with some form of plastic.
As with most cloth/hybrid mats the edges are a real problem. I think that the NOIDpads are a bit more durable because of the way the edges are sealed. It seems that the edges are less prone to floss than i.e. Razer Mantis (Everglide Titan).
A real problem for any hybrid mat is spillage because you can't use alcohol based cleaners on them without ruining the surface.
I tried pouring some water over the mat just to see if it absorbs liquid, and the results are similar to that of the QPAD's.
As you can see on the pictures above, the mat doesn't absorb the water that I spilled intentionally. That is a good sign because it means if you spill some Cola on it there is a chance that you can save the mat just by cleaning it with a damped piece of cloth. Depending on how fast and thorough you are cleaning it I would say that there is a fair chance that the mat won't be damaged by such an accident, which is nice.
Creating your own mat
Well, this is actually quite easy. All you have to do is make a design in Photoshop and go to this site
NOIDpad Configurator. You have to make a huge picture i.e. 2400 pixel width x 1700 pixel height. Another thing you have to do is to set Photoshop to CMYK color. When you have made your image, you add the NOID logo and upload it to NOIDpad and then they print it on a mouse mat and send it to you.
The process is quite easy and I think that you get great value for your money.
