With the price of 7900GTX starting at around 430€s and 7900GTs with 512MB going for around 320€s, the GeForce 7950GX2, which is selling for less than the MSRP already, may just be what we need. While it does cost more than a X1900XTX at the moment, NVIDIA has still managed to secure the performance crown once again. Nonetheless, it should be mentioned that one can buy a X1900XTX or 7900GTX and stick it into every PCIe x16 based mainboard, while that is not so easy with the GeForce 7950GX2.
With the release of Vista and DirectX 10 drawing near, spending that much money on a DirectX 9 based card may not be the smartest thing to do, but smarts has nothing to do with it when one is willing to spend that much money on a single (or in this case dual) graphic card anyways.
Because of the performance war between ATI and NVIDIA, the GPUs have become so powerful, that the user needs to raise the resolution to notice a difference in performance. If you have a 17 or 19 inch LCD at home, getting this 7950GX2 will give you nothing but bragging rights at the next LAN party.
Overall, the NVIDIA GeForce 7950GX2 is an interesting card, finally with HDCP support included and is priced very competitive to take on ATI head on. All that is great for us customers.
