Geometry Processing & Tessellation (continued)
NVIDIA explains how simply adding tessellation to GT200 would have brought about a geometry bottleneck, which is cleared by the way in which the geometry domain is arranged in GF100.
Following slides detail the geometry domain hierarchy, and how vital components are distributed to the various SMs making the architecture more scalable and parallel.
The fruitition is up to 6.44 times increase in tessellation performance, in common tessellation tests, when compared to the ATI Radeon HD 5870.
This was further tested on the tessellation-intensive tests of the Unigine Heaven benchmark, where the GF100 produced 1.6 times (60%) more frames per second (avg fps), with a minimum framerate that's 80% (1.8 times) higher than that of the ATI Radeon HD 5870.
Geometry shader performance tested by Cubemap rendering tests show 4.7 times higher performance compared to the ATI Radeon HD 5870.
