Value & Conclusion

  • The QNAP TS-109 Pro retails for just over $400. this certainly isn't cheap though it can do about everything you require from a home server.
  • Gigabit
  • Very complete set of features
  • Easy to use
  • Linux allows you to add/change features
  • Extremely silent
  • Room for only one internal hard drive
  • Runs a bit hot due to lack of cooling
  • The size would have allowed an internal power supply
  • Doesn't come with a hard drive
When I received the unit the first thing I noticed was the price, I actually thought "I'd never buy this myself", however, now that I've been using it for a while I think I should be keeping the device in service.
Nearly all tasks of my current home server can be replaced by this tiny device at a fraction of the space, cost and power used by my current solution. Considering this the price isn't all that high.
The device performs very well, it is amazingly easy to setup, allows you to turn off your main computer while downloading large files and besides that it could even be portable if you want to. Long story short, I love it.
