Quick-Installation Guide
As we already mentioned previously, QNAP decided to put this quick installation guide leaflet into the box instead of including a software CD. It prompts you to visit an online
location to start the setup procedure.
The quick start guide found online helps you set the NAS up easily and quickly. The first step has you install the HDDs and connect all the necessary cables. Afterwards, you just have to turn the NAS on.
You have to pick the operating system of the PC you will use to control the NAS and are afterward prompted to download the appropriate software packages. The essential program to help you with the setup procedure is Qfinder: It will allow you to configure your NAS after finding it on the network. Qfinder is not the only application available to you. QNAP also provides several other interesting applications, like Qsync, NetBak, QGet, vSphere, and Cloud Connect.
Initial Setup
After the NAS has finished the boot-up process, which takes a while, you can find it on your network through the Qfinder program. The same application also checks if the firmware version of the unit is the most recent one.
You have two setup options, quick and manual. We prefer the last one because it allows for more customization. You better set a static IP to the NAS and update its firmware at this stage if a newer version is available. You had also better change the default password of the administrator.
After you have finished selecting all options, the setup wizard will start configuring the NAS. This process takes some time to finish, so you had better sit back and relax, or do something else until it does.
