You use Qfinder to get to the login page after the initial setup has finished or by directly typing the NAS' IP address into your browser, whereupon you will be asked to type in the administrator's password (the default is "admin"). Doing so will take you to QTS 4.1's windowed interface.
Once we entered QTS, we were notified about an available firmware upgrade, which we obviously installed.
QTS has a nice, highly intuitive interface.
QTS allows you to tailor everything to your needs. You can, for starters, move and rearrange icons on the desktop and immediately access basic administrative functions, logs, and external devices. This interface even allows inexperienced users to easily control such fully featured NAS servers as the TS-451. It also supports many languages, so you can easily switch to one of your liking.
This menu gives you the ability to restart, shutdown, and logout, or change the password, jump to the QTS page, and put the NAS into sleep mode (not available for all models). It also allows you to configure any and all admin options.
These administrative options will allow you to specify your email address, change the profile picture, set a wallpaper by picking an existing one or uploading yours, and changing the password. There are also several other miscellaneous options you can configure.
QTS' help resource is incredibly useful and can be accessed by pressing on the question mark in the top-right corner.
The dashboard is easy-to-follow and very well designed. It will provide you with important system-specific information. These include HDD- and system statistics. The resource monitor is also quite important because it shows CPU-, RAM-, and bandwidth usage. The hardware section tracks HDD and system temperatures and the fan's speed. The online user portion of it displays all currently connected users. If you want to disconnect or block a user or IP, you only have to click on the user and pick the action. Please note that all these dashboard widgets can be dragged onto the desktop. The color of the dashboard will also change with the system's health status, giving you a quick way of figuring out whether everything is running as it should.
You will be greeted by Quick Start the first time you log into QTS. Quick start will offer to take you through a quick but highly informative tour that will familiarize you with the NAS' major functions. Exploring some of the capabilities of your new NAS server, this is a good guided tour to take if you have never used a QNAP product before.
