Software

The Redragon M991 Enlightenment comes with its own lightweight software. The first page includes button remapping for mouse, keyboard, media, and macro functions, polling rate adjustment (125/250/500/1000 Hz), and a percentage-based battery life indicator (increments of 10). The second page allows for CPI adjustment in increments of 50 for up to five color-coded levels in a range of 50–19,000 CPI, along with basic Windows pointer settings. The third page houses the macro editor. The fourth page concerns lighting options and is detailed below. Profile management is available, too.

All setting changes are saved to the on-board memory, so the software does not need to be running (or be installed) all the time. On my system, the software had a RAM footprint of 16 MB on average when running in the foreground, which doesn't change when minimized, be it to the taskbar or the system tray. Upon exiting the application, all processes are terminated, as they should be.

Lighting

The M991 Enlightenment has four physical zones for RGB lighting: the scroll wheel, logo at the back, and two LED strips on the sides. A total of three pre-defined lighting effects are available in the software: Steady, Streaming, and Respiration. For most effects, colors, brightness, and the speed of transitions can be adjusted. Of course, the lighting can also be disabled altogether.

Color accuracy and vibrancy are decent throughout. Below is a short demonstration video in which I go through the Streaming and Respiration lighting effects. Please note that illumination was set to 100% brightness:

Battery Life

Redragon states a maximum battery life of up to 45 hours while using "eco mode," which disables illumination. The software includes a basic percentage-based battery status indicator, which allows me to roughly gauge expected battery life. After 5 hours of continuous use with RGB lighting fully enabled and at a polling rate of 1000 Hz, the status indicator stood at 90%. Assuming linear consumption, this would roughly translate to an expected battery life of 50 hours with illumination.

Even after five minutes of inactivity, the mouse did not shut off. I can only speculate if or when the M991 Enlightenment may enter sleep mode.

Using the included USB Type-A to Type-C charging cable, I measured the charging speed during the constant current stage, which sits at around 0.230 A. The battery has a capacity of 1000 mAh.
