Display in Action & Functionality
Display in Action
The display is capable of seven different colors. The 8th setting cycles between the colors every second. Here is what they look like:
There are two different shades of blue. One dark and one light. The dark one looks much like the LEDs used in power buttons and in cooling fans, thus it may fit much nicer than the light variant.
There are also two variants of purple. The dark one would definitely be purple, while the light variant is more of the pink nature. There is very little difference between the two.
There is a very strong green color available as well. This should fit anyone using the "bio hazard" theme with green lighting and green LED fans. The red on the other hand should fit perfectly for cases with red LED fans and the Fatal1ty colors.
Orange is quite nice, but not as vivid as the other colors. It is more in the range of golden brown. There may not be many users out there with golden brown/orange lighting inside their case.
Functionality
The thermal sensors work from 0 to 90°C (thats 32 to 194°F). So I tested a thermal sensor by measuring my own temperature. I took a digital thermometer, stuck it under my arm, followed by sticking the end of the sensor under my arm. The temperatures of both were within 0.3 degrees Celsius. The display of the Kama Meter jumped between 36.6° and 36.9°. These results are good, much better than most mainboard thermal diodes.
The fan speed adjustment worked quite well as well. The fans spin up full speed at boot, as some fans need normal voltages to start up but work fine at lower voltages after that. The 12 cm fan I used could be turned from 1200RPM down to 930RPM with the dial. The dial turns indefinitely in every direction, but the fan speed does not drop any lower than that, or does not go over the maximum at 12V. If a fan drops below 400RPM a visual alarm (display flashing) and a sound alarm is triggered. The alarm is also triggered if the temperature exceeds 90 degrees Celsius or drops below 0 degrees. The latter may pose some problems for people using phase change or some other fancy form of cooling, which drops CPU temperature below 0°C.
The audio feature works as a master volume. The numbers represent the maximum and minimum volume set, not the actual sound pressure in db(A).
