Sennheiser GSP 670 Review

Microphone Performance

The microphone of the Sennheiser GSP 670 was tested with the Noise Cancellation feature set to all three available settings: Off, Mid, and Max. To review the microphone's sound and compare it to similar headsets, I used the Adam A7X speakers and Shure SRH840 headphones (both fall into the studio monitor category). I connected them to the Audiolab's M-DAC, a high-quality digital-to-analog converter that functions as an external sound card when connected to a PC. Testing was done in Discord, Skype, and Audacity, and I also used Audacity to record the sound from the microphone. The sound was recorded with microphone sensitivity set to 100% and was not post-processed or edited in any way.

For reference, this voice recording has been made with the Rode NT-USB, a high-quality studio microphone:

This is the sound recorded by using the microphone the Sennheiser GSP 670 is supplied with:

Compared to Sennheiser's wired headsets (GSP 500/550/600), the microphone of the wireless GSP 670 sounds more compressed, which was to be expected. However, it manages to preserve plenty of clarity, depth, and dynamics, and is sonically superior to every other wireless gaming headset microphone in existence. You can easily hear that by listening to the following samples. Note that Sennheiser's microphone is even better than the microphone of the SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless, the most serious competitor to the GSP 670 in the high-end gaming headset market.

This is what the microphone sounds like with the Noise Cancellation feature set to Off, Mid, and Max, with me mashing my mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX Red switches in the background.

Noise Cancellation smooths out the sharpest-sounding moments of the keystrokes. At the same time, it doesn't massacre voice dynamics and clarity or add a massive amount of compression, so you might as well use it if you need it.
