Installation

To open the case you need to unscrew the four little screws with the supplied screw driver and then slide out the harddrive tray. The short IDE cable has cuts so it can be bent with less force, while the power plug is quite thin and placed at a 90 degree angle. The PCB is green and quite small. The controller chip used is the Prolific PL-3507. You can read more about the chip's features at the Prolific website.

To install the hard drive, the cables were connected first, and then the HDD was placed upside down onto the tray. Next the drive was secured with the supplied screws. The tray then slides back into the casing perfectly, but is still giving the hard drive a few millimeters of play. Finally, the back cover is secured with all four screws.

Once power is connected and the enclosure is turned on, a green LED lights up. This LED changes to orange to signal hard drive access. It is not very bright, but does the job just fine. This is a very quiet external hard drive case because of the thick aluminum and completely closed case with no holes or gaps of any kind.
