Silverstone HELA 2050 W Review - World's Strongest PSU

Fan Noise »

Efficiency

Using the results we gathered so far, we plotted a chart showing the PSU's efficiency at low loads and loads ranging from 10 to 110 percent of the maximum-rated capacity.

Efficiency is high enough with normal loads, but there is room for improvement at light loads.

10%–110% Load Testing

These tests reveal the PSU's load regulation and efficiency levels under high ambient temperatures and show how the fan-speed profile behaves under harsh operating conditions.

I didn't run the overload (110%) load test because it would be overkill. I fully loaded the PSU at 45.7 °C, and it didn't struggle. The fan was screaming, but it had to deal with 181.31 W of thermal load.

Light-Load Testing

In the following tests, we measure the PSU's efficiency at loads significantly lower than 10 percent of the maximum capacity—the lowest load the 80 PLUS standard measures. This is important for when a PC is idle with its power-saving features turned on.

Such light loads are not this PSU's playground.

Super Light-Load Testing

We measure the PSU's efficiency with a 10 W load if its maximum power is 500 W or less in the following tests. If the PSU is stronger, we apply 2% of its maximum-rated-capacity load.

70% or more efficiency would be nice in this test. For those wondering why it was included as the HELA 1650 in this table, it is because with 115 V input, 1650 W is its maximum power output, and Intel's instruction is to conduct the 2% efficiency measurement with 115 V input.
