SST-ST1000-PTS - 1000 W ATX 80 Plus Platinum
The SST-ST1000-PTS is at its core a 1000 W 80 Plus Platinum, fully modular power supply. What sets it apart from the competition is that it is the world's shortest, most compact 1 kW unit one can buy. It ships in a full-color cardboard box with an image of the PSU on front and lots of technical information on the rear. Inside, foam spacers keep the PSU secure, with a cardboard box containing the cables.
Out of the box, the power supply is extremely compact, so much so that SilverStone had to employ a 120 mm fan instead of the more common 140 mm of larger units out there. In comparison, it is just about 15 mm longer than an SFX-L unit. All the cables for the SST-ST1000-PTS are flat and very malleable, so you should have no issues wiring things. The PCIe cables come with blue connectors matching those on the motherboard.
SilverStone also added two sets of screws, several zip ties, and Velcro strips. The mandatory power cable is rather thick and sturdy, with a 120 mm dust filter also included for good measure. Last but not least, unlike the case, the PSU still ships with plenty of paper documentation.
The 120 mm fan won't start spinning until you reach 50% load, so for most scenarios, the unit will be completely passive. SilverStone also embossed the brand into the top of the casing.
One side of the unit holds a large sticker with all the usual specifications and data of the power supply, while the other gives you a little insight into the version you got—such transparency is nice.
On the exterior is the power switch and a large vent through which you can clearly see internal components, including one with the number four written on it. Turning the SST-1000-PTS over to the internal side, there are the slightly extruding connectors with protective caps on them. A central label lets you know what each of these are for, but each plug is shaped uniquely, so you can't plug a SATA power cable into the PCIe port, for example.
On top of the unit, SilverStone provides a short cable pack for the PSU. It will come in very handy since the SUGO 16 is a small form factor case. In terms of quality, these are essentially identical to those included with the unit itself, just shorter.
