Noise & Vibrations

While testing the enclosure I had it standing on my hard wooden desk at all times. The enclosure itself is dead silent because it doesn't use a fan to cool the disk.

When it comes to vibration dampening this enclosure does a reasonably good job. With the two hard styrofoam pads installed, the enclosure still vibrated a bit and since it doesn't have an form of silicone or rubber feet these vibrations were passed on to the table that it stood on. This can cause some annoyance especially if you are going to install an old drive with ball bearings in this enclosure. Of course this problem can be solved by mounting some aftermarket silicone feet, but this isn't an ideal solution because the bottom of the enclosure is round and with odd shapes.

Durability

Since the enclosure is made from aluminum and the tray from high quality plastic this enclosure is one of the more durable ones on the market today. I think that the enclosure on its own is very durable, but since it doesn't have a fan the hard drive inside it tends to get rather hot. The hard drive is well protected from vibrations and stuff like that, but it isn't protected from its own heat. The fact that the enclosure is fanless surprised me a bit. If you use the enclosure for an extended period of time the hard drive becomes a little too hot for my liking. Of course this all depends on what type of drive you mount in it, and the Seagate 120 GB I had mounted is known to produce quite a lot of heat.

Overall the durability of this enclosure is really good with only one minor issue for some: It's fanless.
