Packaging
The packaging for the SteelSeries Rival 700 follows the same theme as that of previous SteelSeries products we have looked at, a rather nice image of the mouse on a dark background with a nice streak of orange for a stark contrast in colors. Brand identity is very important and by keeping to the same theme and colors, we know this to be a SteelSeries product before having even read the product or brand name.
The top of the box gives us a little bit of an insight into what to expect; RGB illumination, an optical sensor, and information on CPI and IPS are shown.
The back of the packaging gives us a little more information on some of the features, such as the removable mouse cable and an OLED display for in-game stats, alerts, and sensitivity.
This kind of packaging always screams quality to me. Rather than just having a plain cardboard box with a bit of plastic inside, SteelSeries has gone with a nice flip-open type of a box which no doubt costs more in both time and money to make. It does feel a lot more substantial than standard-fare packaging.
Inside the box are the mouse and two cables; one is 2 meters long and sleeved and the other is 1 meter long and unsleeved. There is also a quick setup guide.
