Comparing passive cases to Intel's default chassis has shown passive cases to perform better, and the Streacom NC1 is no exception. While contact between the chassis and components on the board may not be good, it seems to perform well all the same.
The Streacom chassis manages to cool the CPU to new record-breaking lows in both idle and under load. Other cases may work just fine, but the NC1 cracked the 70°C mark while the CPU had to cope with a 100% load.
The same goes for the GPU as both share the same heatsink. The numbers here are just as good as those for the CPU.
Such performance obviously keeps motherboard temperatures low as well. In the end, the board's components reduce the overall benefit a bit, but sharing temperatures with the Tranquil unit, the Streacom NC1 also leads the pack.
The trend continues with an SSD as the drive benefits from a cooler environment. In terms of thermal performance, the Streacom chassis is one of the best NUC alternatives we have gotten our hands on so far.
