A Look Inside »

Packaging

The packaging features a nice blue background and on its face we find the illustration of a butterfly. The series name is highlighted in large white fonts and right beneath it there are several badges describing the various features of the unit and the Platinum efficiency. The unit's capacity is also written on the front side. On the rear side we find more information about the PSU's technical specifications and there is also a graph showing the fan's operational profile once we select the semi-fanless mode, via a small red switch that resides on the front side of the PSU. Finally, on the top side of the box a pretty interesting table informs us about the components used in this PSU. So before we open the unit we already know that Nippon Chemi-Con electrolytic and polymer caps, Infineon fets and a CREE diode are used among others.

Contents

Once we open the flap a white packaging foam greets us. Under it rest a folded piece of paper and the user's manual. We find the PSU last, wrapped in bubble packaging for extra protection. We would highly prefer a cloth bag of course but apparently this would add some extra cost to the final price. Thankfully there is a nylon pouch which stores all modular cables. The bundle is completed by a set of thumbscrews for chassis mounting. Unfortunately no Velcro or zip ties for cable management are included.

Exterior

The finish is almost glossy but doesn't attract a lot of fingerprints. On the front, the honeycomb style vents are rather large for increased airflow. On the top of the AC receptacle, a red switch is installed. Although it looks like the voltage selector switch found on some old PSUs, actually it gives you the ability to switch between two fan profiles, a normal one with the fan spinning all the time and a semi-fanless one in which the fan starts to spin after the internal heatsinks reach a temperature level. The default setting is at position 2 (right side) which is the semi-fanless mode or ECO Intelligent Thermal Control System as Super Flower calls it. We think a sticker should be installed near the switch to detail the operation modes. The power specifications label resides on one of the two sides while on the rear side we find the cable exit hole, which has a grommet to protect the native wires. The sockets on the modular panel have a square shape and are covered by silicone caps to prevent dust buildup. Finally, you can connect any of the modular connectors to any available socket, so there is no need for any sort of identification on them.
