Super Flower it the new strong kid on the block. They were quick to release the first Platinum unit (SF-550P14PE) and from this point on constantly enriched their Platinum PSU offerings. Currently their portfolio includes eight Platinum PSUs with capacities ranging from 500W to 1000W and besides semi-fanless units they also offer a fanless PSU. In the past all Super Flower PSUs we tested exhibited excellent performance and most of the time they managed to leave our labs with a rare TPU Editor's Choice Award.

Today's review sample is the Golden King 650W, a PSU that despite the word "Golden" in its name features Platinum efficiency, has a semi-modular cabling design with unique crystal cube connectors on the modular cables, features selectable hybrid fan operation and according to Super Flower two exclusive patents are used on it. The first is the ECO Intelligent Thermal Control System which engages the fan only when the internal temperature of the PSU reaches 65°C-70°C and once the fan starts to spin its RPMs are thermally controlled. For those that prefer normal fan operation there is a two-way switch on the PSU's front side through which you can toggle between normal and Hybrid fan operation. The second patent has to do with the main transformer which contrary to the typical horizontal double layer winding, features a vertical one so it occupies less PCB space and can handle more power for its footprint.
