Package Center

Use Package Center to easily install and update many applications that will dramatically boost your NAS server's usability. You only have to browse through Synology's available applications to pick those you want to install. You can also manually upload and install an application. Synology offers a rich variety of applications it grouped into the following categories: Backup, Multimedia, Business, Security, and Utilities.


Here is a quick look at the Package Center's settings. These allow you to change the trust level if you want to install applications from any publisher. You can even put a tick into a beta box to see and install the beta versions of these packages.

Security Advisor

Synology includes the Security Advisor app in DSM. It can scan your system and identify security problems. The same app will also provide you with a list of recommended actions, guiding you through the process of performing them to make your NAS more secure.

Log Center

According to Synology, Log Center is a centralized log-management application with a comprehensive set of tools to accomplish the following tasks easily and efficiently:

• Send and receive logs from other network devices via the syslog logging standard
• Monitor log volume according to device and time
• Specify the log archival destination and create rules to automatically trigger log archival
• Search for and filter local logs and logs received from other network devices
• Send notifications to administrator(s) when specified events occur

Resource Monitor

Use the Resource Monitor to monitor your system's resources—these include CPU usage, memory usage, disk utilization, and network transfer speeds. You can monitor resources in real time or view bygone data.

Text Editor

Text Editor brings notepad's functionality to your NAS. It is a simple text and code editor, and through it, you can access files of text or code and quickly edit them. All you need is a web browser.

Support Center

File a support ticket over Support Center should you need help with your NAS, or to have Synology support engineers run remote diagnostics on your NAS to help you resolve a problem.
