RAID Operations
I perform RAID sync operations during which I measure the time the NAS needs to complete these tasks—average power consumption for these rebuild and synchronization periods is also measured. In NAS servers with four bays or more, I rebuild and sync RAID 1, RAID 5, and RAID 6 arrays, while in smaller two-bay NAS servers, I am confined to a RAID 1 array. The Bitmap option is disabled in NAS servers that support it to produce comparable results because it speeds up RAID rebuild times.
Synology DS220j |
---|
Operation | Time | AVG Power Consumption |
---|
RAID 1 Sync | 0:50:33 | 6.81 W |
---|
RAID 1 Rebuild | 0:47 | 6.73 W |
---|
Rebuild and synchronization times are much longer than with the DS420j, which uses the same SoC. This looked strange, so I conducted these tests two times just to be sure.
