TechPowerUp Case of the Year

HYTE Y70 Touch

The HYTE Y70 Touch was an easy pick. It's hard to imagine that a boutique gaming PC builder wouldn't just design their own cases, but go on to start their own case and peripherals brand. HYTE from the house of iBuyPower has some serious artistic talent that figured out that the best case design in the age of glasshouses isn't a cuboid, but a cuboid with its front left corner flattened into its own side, which could create an additional vantage for you to revel upon your build, mount a groovy liquid cooling reservoir or distro plate, or even a custom-made touchscreen by HYTE that acts like a wingman and additional HUD for your main screens. Priced at $360, the increase from the Y60's $200 is justified by the 14" touchscreen. Despite lacking fans, the larger, more refined chassis justifies a $140-150 price difference. The Y70 maintains the Y60's successful DNA, offering the same layout, hard drive support, and design elements. Notable tweaks include a thinner metal strip for a larger window surface and redesigned fan and liquid cooling areas, allowing for up to 4-slot GPUs.

TechPowerUp Hardware of 2023 Runner Up

Montech King 95 Pro

The King 95 Pro from Montech was our year-end surprise for its refreshing yet contemporary design. Despite its $150 price, this case looks like it's from a segment above. It offers exceptional value with six ARGB-equipped fans, a 10-port ARGB/PWM hub, and a unique bent glass element, all for $149. Departing from edgy designs, it maintains high-quality construction with thoughtful details like embedded dust filters. The chassis is versatile, allowing for both glass-focused aesthetics and airflow optimization. Despite minor issues like unclear audio ports and unconventional tape use, the King 95 Pro is a stylish, budget-friendly sandwich design case, standing out in four color options.

Notable Mentions

2023 was a particularly busy year for cases, as the PC case designers responded to the exceedingly large new generation of graphics cards, such as the ASUS ROG Strix RTX 40-series, and others from its segment that can put you in a bind on whether you want a card that big, or a radiator along your front panel. The Endorfy Arx 700 Air is one such mid-tower case, with its airy front mesh intake, plenty of room for a large graphics card, and a pocket friendly $110 price. The Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic Evo XL comes with an innovative design that lets you reorient its entire front 3-quarter layout to your liking. It's like having two cases bundled into one, which you can reassemble to your taste. The Corsair 2000D is a solid vertically oriented Mini-ITX case that carves out room for large graphics cards and elaborate liquid cooling setups.
