Plex Performance

The Plex Media Server app organizes multimedia (video and audio) content from personal media libraries and streams them to their player counterparts.


You can easily install Plex through the Applications app and will have access to any multimedia content on the NAS over any device that can run the Plex client after you've selected your multimedia folders and created corresponding libraries.


A wired Gigabit Ethernet connection easily allowed us to stream up to 4K multimedia content without any problems.


We used an iPhone 6s to access multimedia content on the NAS. The phone was connected to the network through a Xiaomi Mi WiFi router with support for IEEE 802.11ac, at theoretical speeds of up to 1167Mbps. The router was twelve meters away from the phone and there were no walls or other obstacles between the router and the phone.


We tried a high bitrate (48.3Mbps) trailer of Casino Royale. It took around 30 seconds for the Plex client to build up the cache, but everything played back smoothly once it had.
