The Titan Dragonfly 4 is not a cooler to wow you, not at first. Not a heavy-weight contender that lets you overclock to the moon, it offers better than stock performance while being nearly silent. Take into account the small size and it performs admirably. Its memory and CPU socket clearance is also rather nice to see. Users will have no problems installing any memory they want, and the heatsink does not interfere with the top expansion slot. The fact that it is easy to install and includes a second set of fan clips is just icing on the cake. An overall solid choice with good build quality, the Dragonfly 4 is perfect for mainstream systems or HTPC use, where silence is a huge factor.
While there are a lot of positives, there are also some negatives. First up is the fact that its small size and quiet fan make the Dragonfly 4 a heatsink not meant for overclocked systems. Many similarly priced coolers are far better performance-wise - the Raijintek Themis, for example. Granted, those choices trade memory clearance for performance, but the point remains: This is not the cooler to be using if you plan to overclock. The mounting hardware is very easy to work with, but the backplate screws are tedious, though tedious does not mean difficult. When it comes to packaging, Titan follows the likes of Raijintek by using only the bare minimum necessary. I myself prefer a bulkier package since it makes absolutely sure my cooler arrives in one piece. It is nice to see two sets of fan clips supplied; however, they are meant for 15 mm thick fans which will have users purchase one, and Titan's own Extreme 150-1500 RPM fan is currently hard to find.
The only other thought I have is that users will have to look at this cooler without prejudice as it is not designed for exceptional, class-leading performance when it comes to cooling. Titan has instead traded maximum cooling performance for near silence, and I myself believe that to be the right choice. This cooler is a perfect fit for a silent system where the stock cooler is inadequate in terms of cooling and noise. This cooler screams HTPC or Mini ITX to me, where tight quarters let the Dragonfly 4's design shine.
The Dragonfly 4 by Titan is a great choice for users building a silent system they will not overclock. Add to that its affordable price and solid feature set and you simply can't go wrong.
