A Closer Look - Ugreen PowerRoam 1200

The Ugreen PowerRoam 1200 is pretty unique in several ways, which we will get into. However one that is not very apparent is the fact that it utilizes LiFePO4 batteries which are generally a better alternative to the classic Lithium Ion variants. Ugreen sources these from BYD which is an electric vehicle manufacturer. This transparency is meant to add implicit assurances, as you know that these cells aren't simply sourced from an ever changing set of suppliers with varying degrees of quality.

In the front of the PowerRoam 1200, you will find the display at the center with a USB port, a light, as well as DC inputs, while the rear is completely solid without any I/O.

On one side, you have the AC and solar inputs underneath a protective cover, while the six AC outlets are located on the opposite side. The large number of outlets is quite unusual and a welcome sight.

The handle clearly communicates the total capacity of the pack and while made of plastic, it is reinforced with metal. With its smooth surface, it does feel comfortable to carry, but your grip may slip a little easily if you carry it for longer distances.

The six AC outputs can deliver a total of 1200 W but Ugreen has included a surge function that can push up to 2500 W, which it calls U-Turbo. Three of the AC plugs allow for ground pins, which is an important factor for many larger appliances or electronic devices the PowerRoam 1200 could supply electricity to. A dedicated button next to this array of outputs allows you to toggle them on or off, so that you may leave everything plugged while still being able to easily cut or turn on power to any such attached devices. On the other side under the large plastic cover, there is a input plug at the center, meaning that the power brick is built in for additional portability. A yellow connector is intended for solar panels to interface for charging. There is also overcharge protection should there be a spike of electricity input. Lastly, Ugreen also provides a grounding screw, should you want that added protective element in case of a short.

In the front, there is a simple LED light with its own button. It offers three different brightness levels or an SOS function. Below that there is the IoT button, which you need to pair the unit with the companion app as we will see later on. In the center, the display will show you all the input/output and charge level when turned on. There are also two USB-C ports with 100 W capacity each, so you should easily be able to charge your laptops rapidly on the road. In addition there are two USB-A ports with a very solid 22.5 W output. At the very bottom, at the center of the device there is the on/off button with a small state indicator LED.
