The Package

UE ships the new MEGABOOM in the same type of cylindrical box as the original BOOM.

Inside the box are a charger and a micro-USB cable for charging the device. There is no mini-jack cable, which is a shame since it could come in handy.

New for the MEGABOOM is the rubber cover for its bottom connectors. It fits snugly, the screw with the loop on it fastening it at the center and small protrusions attaching it to the connectors. The hole in the middle has the same diameter and thread as on most tripod stands. The rubber cover also makes it much less susceptible to dirt, which is pretty neat for a device that is supposed to be for the out- and indoors.

Closer Examination

UE's MEGABOOM is available in quite a few colors already, and if UE keeps up what they started with the original BOOM, there will probably be more on the way. Right now, you can order it in red, blue, black, and pink.

The colors are deep and go well with the rubber parts and the fabric. The red fabric has gray threading to it, which dials the red look back slightly, but both look brilliant. New for the MEGABOOM is that the rubber is in the same color as the fabric, which makes it look even better to me.

The fabric looks to be out of the same durable fibers as on the smaller BOOM. The only thing changed is the weave which is now of a conventional 0/90 degree style.

The MEGA label is perhaps a bit of an overstatement, but it is roughly twice as large as its smaller brother. The aspect ratio is a little smaller, which gives the MEGABOOM a slightly fatter look that isn't clumsy.

Compared to the Creative SoundBlaster 200AXX, it is quite a bit larger.

The controls are directly carried over from the BOOM. You can get BOOM or UE MEGABOOM boxes to pair up by giving their bluethooth button a long push. This setting is also one these boxes will remember, which will have them auto-pair up when they come close to one another.
