We tried the G1-Clawpad with a number of different Games. Most of these were first person shooters, but I included a few role playing and adventure games as well.
Games like "El Matador", Counter-Strike and Prey play quite well with the G1-Clawpad. Keep in mind there is a fairly large learning curve involved, especially if you have never used a different configuration than a keyboard in most of your gaming life. Some may have a console at home and are used to using other methods of input besides a keyboard. This should make the transition easier. Once the hand is used to the G1-Clawpad, playing with it is quite enjoying. The feel of each button is great, as the pressure points are well placed and the dept of each button is deep enough. The buttons spring back with enough force to differentiate between keeping the button down and hitting it as fast as you can.
Games like Gothic 3 and Oblivion play very nicely as well. These games are usually not as fast paced and you will keep your finger on a single button much longer than in First person shooters. The pressure of the keys does not tire your finger out and there is enough play for your finger to move slightly up, without interrupting the function of the button. This means the user is not forced to press very hard down on the buttons to activate its functionality.
The overall feel of the keys of the G1-Clawpad is very high quality.
Value and Conclusion
- The Ultron G1-Clawpad can be had for around 39€s in Europe. The same pad is sold in the US as the Wolfking Warrior in the US and costs $35 US Dollars.
- Well placed buttons
- Buttons are very comfortable to use
- Very solid construction
- No software needed
- Nice package
- ALT button may be hard to reach
- Getting used to it needs time
- Only for the left hand
The Ultron G1-Clawpad is a great gaming device, once the user is accustomed to it. The buttons are well placed with the exception of the ALT button and the thumb is used to reach more buttons than on a normal keyboard. The device has all the keys needed by the gamer and places them around the left hand, and only the left hand. You will not be able to use this pad if you move your mouse with your left hand and use the keyboard with your right hand. While some may wonder if a normal keyboard does just fine, it will be perfect for anyone playing long sessions of Counter-Strike or World of Warcraft. Overall the Ultron G1-Clawpad can definitely be recommended to anyone looking for a special input device instead of a normal keyboard.
