Vertagear has done an exceptional job of creating an innovative, yet simple chair in the PL4800. This chair feels sturdy, durable, and the materials are high quality and comfortable. The branding is subtle and tasteful. It has some of the classic racer gaming chair aesthetics, but it does not offend the shoulder position in a traditional desk posture. Overall it is a comfortable position to work from and feels both supportive and comfortable. I also really enjoy the materials. The outer carbon-weave material is grippy and soft, making the chair easy to move while the inner suede-like material is exceptionally soft. In a market where chairs seem to be getting more extreme, designs becoming more loud, and gimmicks aplenty, this chair feels like a statement of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it, and if it is, we fixed it".
One of my favorite parts about this chair is the general usability. The chair I currently sit in has armrests that have little indents to move in and out, but that means if they are pushed in, and I try to use the armrest to move the chair, it clatters all over the place and I lose my sitting position. The PL4800 armrests are sturdy and don't suffer from this behavior, yet can be adjusted to similar ranges. The controls for the armrest are intuitive and the haptic feel is satisfying. Little details like that seem to be taken care of by Vertagear. The wheels feel soft and quiet, but move smoothly and effortlessly. Despite it's sturdy feel, it moves easily across surfaces.
There are a few small things I noticed that are worth mentioning. It can rattle a little while moving over hard surfaces with that classic office chair sound of rattling wheels. Because of the thickness, I worry the seat might get somewhat hot, but the "VertaAir" technology seemed to work well to prevent heat buildup. Lastly, the design won't be for everyone. Although I love a clean aesthetic, the entire range is mostly black with some optional colored accents. This is relatively limited compared to the more colorful/branded/themed chairs of some other brands. However, Vertagear solves this with a proprietary RGB offering that provides a unique design amplifier. Although we did not review this technology, Vertagear offers an entire replacement insert of the flow-through chair back space. This allows for fully customizable LEDs with an insert clear screen and accents around the insert.
The PL4800 is priced to be very competitive within the mid-tier gaming chair market. It seems to be a strong competitor within this space. Due to the simplicity of the design, I have very few cons for the product aside from some limitations of adjustability and color options.
This is an excellent addition to Vertagear's lineup and leaves us excited to see more from their line of products.
