Value and Conclusion

  • The Viotek GFV27DAB is available online for $250.
  • Very good picture quality even without calibration
  • Excellent gaming performance (native 165 Hz refresh rate, low input lag, and FreeSync/G-SYNC support)
  • Fully adjustable (height, tilt, swivel, and pivot)
  • 4-way joystick provides an intuitive way to navigate the OSD
  • 27" QHD panels still offer an optimal combination of screen real estate, image sharpness, and GPU demand for many users
  • Great value for the money
  • Factory picture adjustment is not nearly as good as it can be (fixable through the OSD)
  • Annoying cable management clip
  • Lack of a universal Overdrive setting
At its current price of $250, the Viotek GFV27DAB is one of the least expensive 27-inch QHD gaming monitors on the market, and as my tests have shown, it's worth every penny because its overall performance leaves very little to be desired. For a budget VA gaming monitor, the GFV27DAB is full of pleasant surprises, starting with the picture quality. While you won't really appreciate it when first turned on, primarily because the color temperature is set way too high, it only takes a couple of simple tweaks in the OSD to fix the out-of-the-box issues. After that, you'll be greeted with a picture that looks sharp and vibrant and has good color accuracy, as well as color and luminance uniformity.

The Viotek GFV27DAB hits the 165 Hz refresh rate natively, without any form of "overclocking," meaning you can count on 165 Hz working on every Viotek GFV27DAB. It supports AMD FreeSync and is recognized as G-SYNC compatible by NVIDIA's graphics cards, so you can tap into the adaptive synchronization goodness regardless of whose graphics card you're using. A low input lag of only 11.1 ms on average adds to the gaming prowess of Viotek's monitor, as do other gaming-oriented features, such as virtual crosshairs and built-in timer. Motion handling is solid too, although I wish there was a single Overdrive setting that works best for all scenarios. That's not the case, though, so you'll have to set Overdrive to Low or Medium if your gaming rig is capable of constantly keeping the framerate above 100 FPS, or Off if not the case. This isn't a big issue, but definitely worth noting.

Ergonomics are another area where Viotek surprised me with this monitor. Budget-oriented models usually offer nearly no screen adjustability, which is not at all the case here. The GFV27DAB can be tilted, swiveled, adjusted in height, and even pivoted, thus checking all the boxes in terms of ergonomics. It was really easy to find the perfect position with this monitor regardless of how I was sitting and which table I'd put it on.

The Viotek GFV27DAB surpassed my expectations so much that I have to wonder if I won the so-called "sample lottery" by receiving a sample that is as good as this product can possibly be. However, I was sent a regular retail sample, so that's the only thing I can base my conclusion on, which is to get the Viotek GFV27DAB if after a budget 27-inch gaming monitor with a fantastic price-performance ratio.
