Introduction

We would like to thank XFX for supplying the review sample.

Most of you will know XFX from their VGA products but the truth is that they have also some very interesting Power Supply Units under their brand. They entered the PSU market in 2009 with the help of a major OEM, Seasonic. Their main PSU series, called Pro, consists of eight members with capacities ranging from 450W to 1250W. All are made by Seasonic with the first five units featuring 80 Plus Bronze efficiency, the 1000W one is Platinum certified while the two stronger ones with 1050W and 1250W capacity are Gold certified. The top three models are fully modular, the rest of the lineup features a semi-modular cabling design.

In today’s review we will evaluate the flagship ProSeries 1250W unit. Besides the already mentioned Gold efficiency and the fully modular cabling design this unit features an innovative look, uses Japan made capacitors with most of them being polymer ones, has a single +12V output, supports up to four high-end VGAs and is covered by a five year warranty. Here we should emphasize a little bit on the unique external design that XFX used on this unit (and on all ProSeries PSUs with 650W and above capacity). The special designed fan grill along with the stylish ventilation holes on the sides and the edges of the casing make the Pro 1250W look like a transformer PSU. Personally we found its looks pretty interesting, to say the least.
