So, for those keeping their non-OLED, it is possible to find tiny OLED 7/10" and use it as external monitor ?.. good idea, yes ?

no, I have read all the reviews for those small form factor OLED's and they have horrible latency issues for gamers. which is strange because OLED is historically known as having the best latency. but for some reason that form factor acting as an external monitor does not seem to work.

So, a portable bigger screen is neat !?

I really think Valve did some of their fans wrong on this one, I mean all the rhetoric said the next Deck was 2-3 years out, we heard that repeatedly, that's what initially gave me the confidence to buy my Deck back in April. Just slightly over 6 months ago. I feel a little burned honestly, I can't imagine people that bought 1 or 2 months ago during the big sale they had, man talk about getting fucked.

I remember when I got my Samsung A53 phone then the A54 came out, Samsung directly offered me like a massive 250 discount on trade in to get the A54. This was like 11 months after I had bought the A53, respect cause it was actually a decent upgrade, better camera, chip, gps, etc.

im tempted to just lowball sell my Deck LCD and be done with Valve, I don't care that much about OLED, I just don't agree with the way they are treating their customers, mainly the ones who bought 1-2 months ago. They should have given some forewarning or took their LCD stock and expanded it to other countries and lowered prices for those countries, and so on, lot of options, but they chose to just fuck people.
Wow wasnt expecting that as you seemed quite pro deck.

I do agree they probably should have announced with a couple of months notice, as ironically I been rethinking my purchase now.

£350 on the deck, £75 on the SSD, £25 on the ifixit tools to put the SSD in.

The total is not much off a 512gig OLED model. If I am being honest, if I had been informed the OLED was coming, it had wifi6 etc. I do think I may have gone for the 512gig OLED. Its not 100% though as because I did say before I had a circa £400 budget, but the fact I already went over that suggests if I had the thinking time I would have gone OLED model.

There is reports people who brought the LCD within last month or so have been allowed to send it back for full credit towards an OLED, but the problem for me of course is I did replace the SSD which would make that process more awkward and it was an order I did early September if I remember right. So not within the last month.

But I am not getting rid of my unit, and just moving forward with it, I dont care enough to be doing that, I can maybe see myself buying an OLED in future if they ever get discounted, and I am using this one often enough.

I see little reason to upgrade. Even a hypothetical Steam Deck 2 wouldn't be worth it. I mostly play low power games with 6+ hours battery life. Going from 6+ to 10+ hours of battery life wouldn't be life changing. Nor do I need more performance. The upgrade itch is there but is easily ignored.
to be honest with you, I feel the same way. all these reviewers don't realize the preview update for LCD Steam Deck makes it so my Deck actually has really good colors now... honestly most people don't realize this, I thought original Deck looked good before preview update, not going to lie I wanted a little more for my screen, but after the preview update, its so damn good that I honestly am not sure $600 warrants the OLED upgrade)... really im just upgrading for the OLED... i don't know what to do. bleh. and I am similar, a Deck 2 doesn't even make sense, I have so much backlog I am enjoying on my regular Deck that use literally 5 watts to run at 60 fps or 30 fps... i had so much fun this year playing on Deck. maybe I should wait on Deck 2 and skip the OLED, I can't decide :(
Either the OLED deck is the best thing since sliced bread and it really sucks if you bought the LCD version recently or the OLED is a minor upgrade and it really isn't a big deal if you bought the LCD version recently. Although I find the limited edition OLED tempting, I honestly don't think it is that big of a deal. It is a minor upgrade. I could honestly see myself buying the 64gb LCD version today to get the cheapest option. I can't tell you your feelings are invalid your wrong but @Space Lynx , you do appear to be hopping between two wildly different opinions. Is the OLED really that big of a deal? Is the LCD not a fantastic device?

well part of it is that its a bit of dilemma for me. I have a very strong passion for OLED... its been a dream of mine for a while, so I think that just clouded my judgement.

I may do so yeah, even if its a heavy loss on price. I have waited many years for OLED dream. Glad you understand. Not many do, which is ok, everyone likes different things. :toast:

Before i always had 60 series (6600GT, 260, 1660, 3060), finally i had to upgrade once in my life, got 4070ti and OLED & 7800x3d... i render all games exactly as i wish for the first time, so happy.

OLED... it's perfect.

mine came today...first try at this thing , 1tb oled , seems to have the standard case even though the specs show it is supposed to have some kind of "removable liner"...will be interesting checking out it's capabilities.

just a friendly reminder, a game doesn't have to steam deck verified to run, you can always check here to see if it will run or not even if it says unsupported:

my irl friend is buying my Deck LCD since i am giving him a friends discount on it ^^

so i got the OLED on order, im sticking with $549 version as I have no need for diffusion of light, my current glossy LCD doesn't bug me at all

so i got the OLED on order

I hope it brings you many hours of passive enjoyment without intrusion of further deterrents to your happiness.

Still funny the flip flopping between extremes this induced. Trust there won't be a second cancellation.

i don't think i will cancel, i still disagree with the business practice of not allowing trade ins for say 2 month old purchases. sony, nintendo, hell even samsung have all handled launches better imo.

and if this were a windows device i'd probably not be bothering. as I have said in several posts, SteamOS is the only saving grace of Valve for me.

also I was content to keep my LCD model, its still a good device, but my irl friend said he was looking to buy one, so it just all kind of happened fast. so its less flip flop, and more that the circumstances changed, and I wasn't actively trying to change those circumstances, he just mentioned he might get one soon and thats when I made him a good deal on mine. but before he mentioned anything I was content with keeping my LCD model.

Update to my post above if anyone is interested (wifi now works right):

edit: I also want to add another game to my shit list for Windows:

Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning, horrible experience on Windows, looks like junk, but on Steam Deck LCD and OLED (I am comparing them side by side) on BOTH of them it runs at 60 fps and is gorgeous to look at, highest settings possible + i have camera distance zoomed out a little, and yeah its amazing on Deck. wow

Windows really ruins the experience for some things, but this form factor and SteamOS optimizations really make or break some games, I'll say it again, SteamOS and Windows = it is good to have a system that runs each, cause man they compliment each other nicely depending on the game

@lexluthermiester now I need to you contact GoG and tell them to get Galaxy Launcher running easily on SteamOS, ty :D

It makes sense, since they updated the hardware from v5 to v6, i knew you would find about it working sooner or later...

... GOG, yes, they need to do that.

Check out heroic launcher

I have heard of this, but it has always worried me what if it leaks my pw or something to login to my account... how do we as end users know its secure? I mean its fine to say something is open source, but I mean how many people actually go over tons of lines of code and are like oh hey ya its safe bros... I mean who has time for that? So how do we know it's actually safe.... (come to think of it this might not be a bad business idea... like a non-profit that asks for donations to review open source code)

What do you mean by v5 to v6, I have not heard of this before... I'm glad my wifi is working good now, but I am not sure I understand what you mean by version 5 got updated to version 6?

It's because nobody say "Wifi Version 5 or 6" , it's just "Wifi 5" or "Wifi 6"

So, if i say :

"Your Wifi has updated from version 5 to 6".... nobody will do the the link with Wifi5/6 ?.. people are so strange sometimes.

You never mentionned wifi in your post, the context was there but you could have know something else about the oled hardware.
It makes sense, since they updated the hardware from v5 to v6
Some people will get it and others not.

My OLED 'Deck is missing its left trigger bumper. The trigger was smooth up until it bottoms out, then it gets a grindy feeling and creaky sound. Right trigger feels great. I opened it up to investigate and found this! With the stopper missing it was traveling further than it was supposed to and making contact with the PCB and back panel

I cut some rubber feet from something else to size and stuck it in place, feels perfect now
