VIA Seeks US Ban of iPhone, iPad Over Patent Infringements
Taiwan-based low-power computing technology company VIA sought a sales ban of Apple's iPhone and iPad, for what it alleges to be patent infringements of its microprocessor intellectual property. VIA sought a jury trial along with a sales ban on Apple products containing the inventions in the U.S., according to a complaint filed yesterday in federal court in Wilmington, Delaware.
In its complaint VIA says "The products at issue generally concern microprocessors included in a variety of electronic products such as certain smartphones, tablet computers, portable media players and other computing devices." This specifically impinges upon Apple's cash-cow products, the iPhone and iPad, and it isn't coming at a good time because Apple, according to market analyst Gartner Inc., will dominate tablet sales this holiday season. The case is Via Technologies v. Apple Inc. (AAPL), U.S. District Court, District of Delaware (Wilmington).

not like that, after a while apple sued many companies they got sued by via
i feel its kinda funny and ironic at the same time :o
from wikipedia :toast:
So this would be bad, how?
Yes, I despise Apple to the point of reaching for synonyms, but in this case I don't see how VIA will win. I mean, I'm glad somebody is suing Apple, but how exactly will VIA continue with this? What patents do they hold that Apple stole? I couldn't find out when researching the article, it all seemed very vague.
At least it's not as petty as Apple suing Amazon lol. I guess what goes around comes around. Better dunno about that but cheaper maybe.
Due to their shitty practices I don't think i will ever own a Apple product.
I can totally see some VIA employe going to the headquarters and saying
Employe: "Some random guy just dropped off this package, says its from Samsung."
HQ: "Well open it up."
Employe: "There are notes and pictures with highlights, there is a sticky note that says; here is evidence to ban Apple products, follow each step carefully.
PS: "F" Apple hard for us please"

VIA had to wait until they knew it would be worth it, and until they had evidence to back them up. It takes a long time to build and follow through on a court case even if it is a sure bet, and somehow I doubt VIA had a spy in the iPhone Dev team...
VIA doesn't have a history of patent trolling. If this was Rambus, sure, I'd say they were just trolling. They've got a history of it, VIA doesn't. IIRC part of the legality surrounding patents, is if you don't protect your patents, and persue those who infringe on them, they effectively become null. (if the use of your patents becomes commonplace, and you don't sue anybody for it, it becomes harder and harder to win a patent case. again, IIRC. IANAL)
also samsung will won.. against the rotten apple.
