AMD A8-3870K and A6-3670K up for Pre-Order

Later this month, AMD will finally launch its much overdue unlocked A8 and A6 series APUs in the FM1 package, that are geared for overclocking. The A8-3870K is clocked at 3.00 GHz, and the A6-3670K at 2.60 GHz. The two are quad-core APUs, and differ by the core clock speeds and integrated GPUs. While the A8-3870K packs Radeon HD 6550D graphics with 400 stream processors, the A6-3670K has Radeon HD 6530D graphics with 320 stream processors. The two were listed for pre-order on ShopBLT, with the A8-3870K priced at US $143.77, and the A6-3670K at $121.50. It is expected that prices of A8-3850 and A6-3650 will drop after the launch of these two chips.

I'm annoyed this wasn't available at launch.

Instead of overclocking my A8-3850 I undervolted it. Power consumption and heat go waaaay down when doing so.

It will be very exciting to see how this chips perform with an unlocked multi. 4ghz+? Huge GPU clock?

I love the APU. Its the best thing AMD has going for it.

To OC the regular APUs when you raise the HTT frequency does it raise the graphics core frequency too or just the CPU frequency?

When voltage is adjusted does the CPU volt gets adjusted or both?

Just trying to understand how the new APUs OCing is.

tempted to try one of these in an ITX build, someday when I get out of the damn bills and expenses I will :banghead:

repman244I didn't know you could live in a room that is at 5C. Those idle readings are incorrect like with most of AMD's CPU's.
Winter in Minnesota. This thing sits next to an un-insulated drafty window. The chip itself probably doesnt go that low, but the heatsync does for sure.

pantherx1270c in mine craft? Have you got v-sync switched off? If you do switch it on, temps will go down.

Also as has been stated, amd idle temps are always way off :p
Something about minecraft just kills my computer. Its probably because of java.

As for the temps, it sits in a very cold room in southern Minnesota, where it gets to 30F(0C) most days. The chip itself is probably realistically around 20-30C.

well, you probably don't read Chinese, but I been getting my supplies from here:

item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=14132088282

990 yuan = $150USD, most recent one was built for a customer just days ago.

pantherx12Seem to quite a lot of chips released in china earlier, or chips that only get released there.

Need to set me up some links
AMD didnt release the 3870 in China, people in China just figure out ways to grab ahold of them before anyone else (warehouse snatching?)

Warehouses not holding products until release date happens all the time.

Kinda late to the game, but I guess it is what is going to keep interest in FM1 while FM2 isn't released.

I got a 3670k for only 750 yuan or USD118 off taobao (which works much better than eBay ), much better value for only <15% performance diff! :D

nice unlocked multiplier! These chips are probably smuggled from Malaysia

Musselsif i was building a system for anyone in the coming months, these would probably be at the heart of it.
Im currently building a web surfer/photoshop (she does graphic design) rig for the gf. Already have board and A8-3800, wondering if its worth getting the 3870k.
AphexDreamerI think AMD is going to blow intel out of the water going this route with some super chip.

Intel isn't going to even know what hit them.

AMD-"yeah we aren't competing with Intel like we used to.... because we are making highly powerful and advance Hybrid CPU's now."
Big words - we can only hope.
Aldv3xAs if these APUs werent awesome enough. My A8-3850 idles at around 10-15C, 30-40C on load, 70C while running minecraft(Lol?? Not kidding!). Overclocking this a little bit ought to use up some of that heat headroom in exchange for some awesome performance increases. AMD has a great product on their hands. I believe that they should straight up quit on the low-end CPUs and only make APUs and socket FM1 CPUs. Everything FM1 so far has blown my socks off. The Athlon II X4 (FM1) outperforms the best AM3 one by about 15% and costs like 2/3.

Seeing as everything FM1 so far has been locked, it should be interesting to see an unlocked CPU for this socket. I see no reason not to get one of these, since its like $5 more than the 3850 and clocked higher. That is, if the 3850 doesnt drop in price.

Edit: For anyone looking for extreme performance, wait for the A10-5800 this spring or the A10 5850K this summer.
Jeezus, how cold is your room? Its summer in Australia here and when I had it going, my A8-3800 idled at 30-35*C. :D Mind you it maxed out at 45.

EDIT: man, wish I could read chinese. :P
