Abit Launches AW9D Series

Today Universal abit launched their much anticipated AW9D and AW9D-MAX motherboards based on the Intel 975X chipset. There has been much anticipation in the industry for this series and as far as looks go, these boards are built to please. The benchmarking has been exceptional in typical abit style and our tweakability and overclocking features have exceeded even our own expectations:

Mark, a bright new star in the abit engineering department, says: "I really like abit's µ Guru overclocking features on this board and playing with the engineering samples I've managed to OC to 470 FSB using a 6800XE Core 2 Duo. The BIOS has plenty of options for adjusting FSB, tweaking voltages and controlling stability. It's truly an amazing overclocking motherboard ... I love it!"

AW9D-MAX

Meh, don't really care for the board layout. If you use crossfire then that covers up the one PCI slot and one of the PCI-E x1 slots. Leaving barely enough room for one expansion card.

layout sucks and doesn't even have 2 PCI slots (opne for Physx one for sound card) and the only PCI slot can't be used when Crossfire is used.

Abit intros Intel quad-core motherboard

Abit announced its AW9D and AW9D-MAX motherboards which can be used with Intel's current LGA775 processors such as the Pentium D and Core 2 Duo as well as future quad-core versions of the Core 2 Extreme CPU ("Kentsfield"). Both boards are based on Intel's 975X chipset and support Nvidia SLI and ATI Crossfire multi-GPU technologies. The differences between the tow models are very subtle -the AW9D-MAX integrates seven instead of the AW9D 's four SATA ports as well as two PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet ports instead of only one.

Pricing has not been announced.

I agree...that is a REALLY gay layout, needs more PCI slots, too...

Hmmm, your right that one PCI slot isn't enough, but that looks like it will be a serious overclocking board. All the FETs are sinked, and it looks like they only used solid caps as opposed to electrolytic caps.

is it a true 16/16 crossfire board?

Nice to see ABIT back on the scene anyway

where/how would you place the slots?

Must be ATX, I would scrap one of the PCI-E X1's and move the second PCI-E X16 up one, then have 2 PCI slots

then people would complain about not enough space between cards in cf/sli.. i think ultimately abit has to get rid of the stupid floppy connector

Haven't read up on the featureset used, but got to THIS part & liked it well enough:

:)

* I can relate to that completely - only way to fly!

(Hey - I like a GOOD "marketing spiel" as much as the next guy does!)

P.S.=> Now, to actually read up on what it's got in/on it & over the competition... lol! apk

Altium Protel DXP is a PCB design software .. it's definitely not usable for you unless you know how to use and have the correct background.. give a calculator to a 3 year, same problem.

if you guys want to write up suggestions for abit how they can improve their motherboards i'll gladly forward them. they specifically asked for user feedback.

More PCI slots...better layout...don't need 2 PCI-E X1's, maybe it shouldn't be a Crossfire/SLi board, not enough room...

in my eyes a board atm needs a 16x pci-e slot that will work as an 4x and/or as an 1x if you plug the right card in it

when you have 2 graphics installed then you should be able to use 1 pci-e slot and 1 pci slot

something like a creative sound card and a raid controller or whatever

the thing is that todays boards have everything on it but some users need the pci cards

on my setup its a wireless lan card witch is plugges in a pci slot so a sound card wouldnt be a choice for me on this board

clear?

I'm fairly sure the way mine's setup WILL do that, as is!

(& it has 2 PCI-e x16 slots, for SLI if necessary)

IIRC, from my brief "scan" of its manual?

It stated that if the 2nd x16 PCI-e slot is not used in SLI, it will use it as an ordinary x4/x1 PCI-e slot with other cards.

P.S.=> This mobo is an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium... apk
