New Power Draw Meter Tweets About Your Power Draw, And Then Some

Japanese Sanwa Supply introduced an innovative new power draw meter that not only measures power draw at wall like every other product in its class, but also tweets about it. The TAP-TST9 from Sanwa Supply is equipped with a WLAN device, which when configured, automatically logs into Twitter (you can set up a separate account for it) periodically, and tweets about your current power draw, any unusual increase or drops (indicating that something is wrong with the connected appliances) are reported. In its tweets, the TAP-TST9 provides readings of voltage (V), current (A), power draw (W), the amount of money spent in powering the appliances (in a set currency, when the local power tariffs are programmed), and even carbon footprint (kg)! Measuring 60 x 36 x 130 mm (WxDxH), the device weighs about 145 g. It is priced at 29,400 JPY (US $362).

"I go fast!1!11!1!"
This product is going to flop. It'd maybe sell at <$40 but for $362, there's far better products out there like an APC UPS with a UPS Network Management Card. It comes with all the benefits of a UPS to boot. ;)

I was about to say "what a brilliant little device". Adding a small ARM based internet tweeting feature to add value and feature set. I was about to say "i'll get one" and "great idea, stick it in other products too"

But the price? SHUURREELLYY there is a mistake. At EUR 275 that is just nonsense.

$362 LMFAO, and you can only use it for twitter LOOOOL.. Like shit should have at least pop3 and shit..

And then it's not any $362, some people just need to use a extension cord and save around $310.

... of course, $362 is cheap if it is smart enough to tweet of impending tsunami and tells you to get the fark out of there!

as ford said, APC makes WAY better power reading equipment for that price and you also get more features such as UPS abilities.

And then the Energy Police kick in your door and drag you off for using too much electricity...

This has to be one of the worst ideas ever, unless you are one of those militant tree-hugging types.

I really couldn't care less about my "carbon footprint", but know the power draw so I know how hard SDGE is going to rape my wallet would be nice.

You could customize the twitter account to keep tweets private, or visible only to select people (your family).

Apparently technological innovations such as allowing a device to tweet can be very expensive to manufacture.

Maybe it would be cheaper to just make it a facebook profile and have it post on my wall?

...yeah it would be better and perhaps cheaper if it just screamed at you out loud. Like "Hey moron that all day gaming session on your tri-sli rig just cost you forty bucks and created 2 ounces of nuclear waste!"
