TYAN Announces Support for the AMD Opteron 6300 Series Processors

TYAN, an industry-leading server platform manufacturer and subsidiary of MiTAC International Corp. announces that its various G34 based platforms are compatible with AMD's upcoming Opteron 6300 Series Processors (codename: "Abu Dhabi") through a BIOS update. During SC'12 in Salt Lake City this year, AMD will showcase TYAN's new AMD Opteron 6300 based TA70-B8237 Road Runner platform which is designed for implementation into the cloud computing environment and TYAN will display the AMD Opteron supported platforms with PCIe flash LSI Nytro MegaRAID application acceleration cards which are fitting in datacenter, HPC and storage applications.

TYAN has collaborated with AMD to develop multiple G34 based platforms that deliver higher performance, more scalability and lower cost for Cloud Computing, virtualization, HPC, GPGPU and Datacenters. Featuring more cores and AMD's HT3 technology, TYAN's TA70-B8237 is specially designed for HPC and storage which reduces computing time and power consumption while maintaining high performance. Supporting (2) AMD Opteron 6300 Series Processors, (2) PCI-E x16 G3 slots, (12+12) DDR-III R/U-DIMM and (24) 2.5" HDDs, the TA70-B8237 is a powerful platform well suited for virtual machines, public clouds, and enterprise server rooms. With the LSI Nytro MegaRAID card, the TA70-B8237 accelerates key business applications and enhances RAID functionality.

"AMD is known as the innovator in IT industry," said Albert Mu, Vice President of MiTAC International Corporation's TYAN Business Unit. "Our goal is to collaborate with AMD and adopt its up-to-date technology by offering cutting-edged solutions to our customers and assisting them to build an intelligent IT infrastructure."

"TYAN adds tremendous value to customers with its AMD Opteron 6300 series socket G34 platform," said John Williams, vice president, Server Marketing and Business Development, AMD. "With high performance, superior energy efficiency and excellent value, the AMD Opteron 6300 series processors further strengthen the TYAN value proposition for virtualization, Cloud Computing, and HPC applications."

"We're excited to be collaborating with TYAN on a Nytro MegaRAID card demonstration at SC'12," said Steve Fingerhut, vice president of marketing, Accelerated Solutions Division, LSI. "Deploying Nytro MegaRAID cards with TYAN's TA70-B8237 platform as an integrated solution will enable customers to accelerate I/O-intensive Hadoop applications allowing valuable insights to be extracted faster from Big Data".

The TYAN S8236-IL motherboard and the GT24-B8236-IL are the ideal products for GPGPU computing and virtualization with up to (2) AMD Opteron 6300 Series Processors, (3) PCI-E x16 G2 slots and (8) SAS 6G. Targeting HPC, datacenter and virtual machine, TYAN introduces its S8812 motherboard, the 4-way platform with support for up to (4) AMD Opteron 6300 Series Processors and (32) DDR-III R/U-DIMM.

Customers are welcome to visit TYAN's AMD Opteron 6300 Series Processor based server platforms at TYAN booth (#2419) or AMD booth (#2019) in Salt Palace Convention Center during the SC'12 from November, 12th to 15th, 2012.

Opteron 4P servers are much more affordable than 4P Intel servers. I think that Albert Mu and John Williams are trying to say that as far as servers are concerned, they're trying to place their products competitively and I think they've succeeded so far, because AMD's 16 core Opterons are a hell of a bargain starting at 520 USD.

AMD Opteron 6272 Interlagos 2.1GHz 16MB L3 Cache S... @ 519.99 USD
AMD Opteron 6274 Interlagos 2.2GHz 16MB L3 Cache S... @ 599.99 USD
AMD Opteron 6276 Interlagos 2.3GHz 16MB L3 Cache S... @ 849.99 USD

Intel's cheapest 8-core is 1,100 USD (Intel Xeon E5-2650 Sandy Bridge-EP 2.0GHz (2.8GHz ...). Personally I would rather have two 16c processors than one 8 core if I were building a server.

This thread needs mr.Intel (i won't mention any names) to say "pfft, four 12-core CPUs from AMD. Now that is what i call 3960X power"

Waiting to see how 6300 series performs before I plan my next 4P rig. Currently have overclocked 6180SE & 6176SE rigs and the bang for the buck is astonishing, especially with the low cost of used chips considered. Looking forward to the Supermicro offerings as well.

wouldnt you just swap the CPUs out then in those?

Unless he's using another method to overclock his chips, it takes a hacked BIOS to do it. One may or may not come for his board to support overclocking and the new CPUs.

Besides, more points if he keeps the existing systems running and adds a completely new system! ;)

Yes, I'm considering adding another 4P rig when the Piledriver cores become more affordable. The [H] Next Gen o/c Bios currently only supports Magnycours. Interlagos is coming shortly and hope then onto Piledriver. Magnycours still outperform Interlagos even with 16 less cores per rig.
