SilverStone Raven RV04 Chassis Detailed

Here are some of the first pictures of SilverStone's upcoming flagship chassis, the Raven RV04. Its styling is clearly evolutionary to the Raven RV03, with no chrome highlights, and a more curvy, "concave" front. The biggest change is on the inside, while the RV03 features a 90° clockwise-tilted motherboard tray, the RV04 uses an upside-down BTX-esque motherboard tray. Perhaps the new trend of detachable drive-bays to make room for long graphics cards caught up with SilverStone. The case supports ATX, E-ATX, and SSI-CEB motherboard form-factors.

The Raven RV04 features two 5.25-inch drive bays, seven internal 3.5-inch ones, of which two feature back-planes to enable hot-swapping; and four 2.5-inch bays. It features room for CPU coolers as tall as 165 mm, PSUs as long as 180 mm, and add-on cards as long as 337 mm, and as tall as 170 mm. Its front-panel includes two USB 3.0 ports (standard header), and audio jacks. Ventilation includes two gargantuan 180 mm front intake fans (up to 1200 RPM, up to 34 dBA), and a 120 mm rear fan. Measuring 219mm (W) x 581mm (H) x 497mm (D), the RV04 weighs about 11 kg. It's largely made of SECC steel and ABS plastic. It's available in two variants, one with the opaque side-panel (SST-RV04B), and one with an acrylic window (SST-RV04B-W). Pricing and availability will be announced on May 11.

Not sure about practicality, but those are some of the ugliest innerds I've seen. That drive cage looks like something from a £25 case.

It has a window but when you look at it from the side it shows that ugly door gap? Uhm.

Almost as ugly as the new FT04 they teased a couple of months ago.

The FT02 and FT03 remain some of the best looking cases ever made in my opinion. How could Silverstone fuck up so badly with the newest Raven and Fortress cases? :banghead:

Most of the big case manufacturers also offer cheap (ugly?) looking products with lots of plastic. Only Lian Li seems to avoid that, though their lower end aluminium models have a pretty competitive price tag.

And we're still waiting for a proper RV/FT02 successor. How hard would that even be? Just add a little more room around the top fan spot so we can get a 140 in there.

This case shouldn't even be called Raven, imo. The defining factor for me about the Raven line of chassis was the sideways orientation of the motherboard with the ports all coming out on top instead of the rear. Without that, this case offers nothing exciting.

Raven 1......timeless.....this thing is just insulting..I mean seriously who is the guy that oked this for production. He needs to be tar'd, feathered and run out of town. Gonna build my son a pc with the Raven 1 case...and pretend i didn't see this...:shadedshu

I maintain my belief that Silverstone lost the stars of their design team a year ago or so. They went from tasteful to tasteless with such immediacy, I don't see any other explanation.

I don't get it, they patent 90° motherboard tray and then they proceed not to use it.

I'm mad Silverstone.

90° orientation its bad for ALL aftermarket/non reference coolers, the heatpipes dont work well, etc etc; the only way to go was Reference, blower style coolers

this mobo configuration actually its better for cooling in general, SPECIALLY if you remove that crappy designed HDD cage

Good concept > poorly executed.. Shame silverstone :shadedshu

I think they had to build a few horrible cases to make money....
the good ones (my TJ09 comes to mind) people just buy them and never need buy a new case ever again.
These crap ones need to be replaced often so people will actually buy more cases from them:laugh:
I really want a TJ11 for no particular reason though:slap:

I wanna see a system in this thing before I rag on it. But it does seem like an odd direction Silverstone is taking.

Would be nice to see an RV-01 or FT-01 Redux Edition (i.e. add in a bunch of the features of the newer cases to the original designs)

Haven't seen anything new from Silverstone lately that would make me want to retire my FT-01 :shadedshu

The only raven case that I've really liked is the RV01. RV02 was ok. RV03 was ugly but this, RV04, is from another planet of ugly. It just doesn't deserve to be a raven.

This is not a Raven. It's a cheap knockoff made to fit within a price point. And what happened to the 90 degree rotated motherboard that had all the i/o on the top? Silverstone seriously needs to get this back on the drawing board.

Are these people late for April 1st? This is worse than a joke, though, it's a flat out insult.

RV01, RV02-E, FT02, FT03. The rest of them are simply not worth considering.

Instead of improving the RV03, providing the already known 90 degree rotation with MB I/O on the top and support for 240/280mm radiators on top without modding, they make this cheap-looking POS.

C'mon, Silverstone! :shadedshu
