Radeon R7 260X Pictured, Too

In addition to the Radeon R9 290X pictured earlier today, AMD will also be unveiling the Radeon R7 260X upper mid-range graphics card. Pictures of the card were leaked to the web. At the moment, we have no clue as to what chip the card is based on, but we're hearing two codenames, "Curacao" and "Bonaire XTX." "Curacao," in our best guess, is a variant of "Pitcairn." "Bonaire XTX" could be a higher-performing variant of the "Bonaire" silicon AMD launched the Radeon HD 7790 with. Given the way components are arranged behind the GPU, we're inclined to believe the card pictured below is based on "Curacao." Gotta give AMD marks for trying out something different with the cooler shroud design.

So this is the HD 9700 or HD 9800? I'm guessing 9700 series since it only has one 6-pin.

This is the 9760X (R7 260X)
7 is the market segment(7 being worst after 6), 2 being the generation, 60 is the low to mid end(80 and 90 is the mid to high end), but the X represents a higher tier product.
AKA this is the 7750 with some minor improvements here and there. I assume the 7770 is the R7 280, and the 7790 is the R7 290.

UNLESS there is no R8 xxx series - Which HIS has shown a lack of in its product line. IN WHICH CASE, this is a 7850.

If R7 is Pitcairn, then it wouldn't be unreasonable to think that R8 could be a Tahiti derivation/rebadge ( Pitcairn moving one step down the product stack from x8xx to x7xx, Tahiti moving from x9xx to x8xx). The die size would work against it from AMD's point of view, but if it yields well what the hell.

The cooler is ugly, but at least it's something new. I hope Curacao isn't just a re-brand of Pitcairn. I'm hoping it'll be something like double the specs of Bonaire, like Pitcairn was double the specs of Cape Verde.

Beauty is the eye of the beholder I guess. All I see are three narrow venturi's that look like a pain to clean, and a standard open air shroud with enough cutouts to make a rear exhaust superfluous. Given that the GPU being cooled is supposedly a Bonaire or possibly Pitcairn, the openness of the shroud seems a little overkill for the likely amount of heat dissipation required. Blanking off the motherboard side of the card might have been a better design concept also, since I cant think of any good reason why having warm air flowing over a motherboard should be considered a good idea.

Personally I look forward to the performance segment below the top, I.E 7870/7850, or in this case R8 280/290 (I think). So this is good to see AMD taking the architecture and GTX 500'ing it. :rockout:

Cooler looks great and I think it seems functional (some kind of an air channeling design). Cooling performance remains to be seen though... :rockout:
