AMD Announces the Radeon R7 Line of Solid State Drives

AMD today announced its Radeon R7 line of mainstream solid-state drives. Built by OCZ, the drives feature Toshiba-made MLC NAND flash, and OCZ's Indilinx Barefoot 3 M00 processors. Built in the 7 mm-thick 2.5-inch form-factor, the drives feature SATA 6 Gb/s interface, and are available in three capacities, 120 GB, 240 GB, and 480 GB.

All three offer sequential read speeds of up to 550 MB/s; while the 120 GB variant offers up to 470 MB/s of sequential writes; the 240 GB and 480 GB ones offer up to 530 MB/s. Their 4K random read performance numbers are up to 85,000 IOPS, up to 95,000 IOPS, and up to 100,000 IOPS, respectively; while the 4K sequential write performance for all three are rated at up to 90,000 IOPS. The Radeon R7 is essentially an OCZ Vector 150 with lighter processor clocks, and could be priced accordingly.

ixiIt's cooler master, not AMD :p, thats why we're still waiting AMD case and HDD :p
And last time I knew anything, AMD DDR3 was a rebrand too so Coolermaster branded cases 'from' AMD are (almost) in the same boat.

Reference:
btarunrI have a strong feeling they're re-branded Hyundai (Hynix) chips.
AMD have rebranded their SSD's and DDR3 directly, as in it shows little-to-no trace of the OEM. Coolermaster, on the other hand, have produced AMD themed chassis under license so it still looks very similar to the original HAF... much the same as Lian Li did a while back.

According to W1zzard, this SSD seems to fall flat on it's bum. Mediocre at best, bad price-performer.
Mediocrity seems to be a repetative theme when it comes to these type of products, AMD.

And to add to this comment: www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820239046&cm_re=ssd_240gb-_-20-239-046-_-Product

$145 for a 240GB Kingston HyperX with free copy of Watch Dogs..... certainly a much better deal than the AMD rebrand... even without the free game. :shadedshu:

That's correct. We only need AMD printers with AMD ink and AMD paper to print our AMD labels and put them on Intel and Nvidia hardware. :p

PS And someone to mod the Nvidia panel to look like Catalyst control center.

The reviews I have seen of these seems to be pretty good in the area of read and write speeds which is surprising to me but since these are essentially OCZ Vector SSD's it is not as shocking. The price is a bit higher than the Samsungs from what I have seen so far but the performance is a slight bit higher as well so its interesting to say the least.

Guess we will have to see where these go before we write them off.

You didn't understand anything, sir. Positioning the discussion in it's real big picture is great for making it interesting. And at the AMD of the day pasting stickers is what AMD indeed does here!

Mrmm, current pricing on Newegg (ETA 9/9/2014):

120GB: $99.99
240GB: $159.99
480GB: $289.99

Same price as the Vector 150. IMO prices are a tad high on these.

As for the AMD DDR3 RAM: I have a 2x4 GB DDR3-1333 set that clearly says on the label they are made by Patriot. No covering up who made them at all, if anyone thought they were trying to.

Nobody thinks -AFAIK- that they actually make these products. The big Q is: what sense does it make? Unless you make them explicitly for... (beep). :nutkick:

AMD is building an eco system of PC hardware for those who want to buy known performance and compatibility under one brand. One of the reasons for this is not every PC hardware component works the same on an AMD vs. Intel system and thus picking the right components can be difficult for many PC enthusiasts. AMD is making it easy for those who desire PC hardware assistance. There is no effort to hide the actual manufacturer and it's usually specified in the product overview.

Lets hope so, but i am curious about AMD Mobo. Will they support only AMD CPU and APU or support Intel as well?

For motherboards they can always rebrand Sapphire motherboards.
And of course NO Intel mobos. You can't use an AMD APU with Intel sockets.

AMD is making it easy for the OEMs and also is leveling the field with Intel.
An OEM goes at Intel. With only one meeting he gets
CPU + graphics
Motherboard
SSD
a huge discount

In the past having to make an AMD based system had to negotiate every part with a different company.
Now an OEM goes at AMD. With only one meeting he gets
APU or CPU+GPU combination
SSD
RAM
a few stickers from @erixx's collection "We love AMD", because AMD doesn't have the money for huge discounts.

AMD faking RAM and SSD, just a matter of time when they will start selling Intel and Nvidia with AMD logo.

Better buy Western Digital 6TB WD Red NAS for $299 and give credit to old HDD, than support new era of stickers.

I was saying this 6 years ago when SSDs where 16GB and 32GBs and expensive and nothing more than low access times with HDDs speeds, but things have change from back then. SSDs are really necessary to have the best experience possible and to utilize the rest of the hardware in your system in the highest degree.

I am using one EVO 120Gb and one 500GB 2.5'' Seagate 5400RPM in the PC I am writing now. 3.5'' drives where just to noisy so I prefered the 2,5''!!! I have two virtual OSes, one on the SSD and the other on the Seagate. I NEVER suspend the one on the Seagate. It takes YEARS to save!
