Yeah, they aren't cheap. But for those who want a quality product without the "hassle" (as they see it) of building one, they get what they pay for.

Too expensive for my blood though!

I know this article is about HTPCs but I was curious what they would want for a nice gaming PC and all I can say is customers might be spared the effort of building their own rig but they sure pay for it

Basic Origin mid size case
Gigabyte Z97 mobo
i5-4690k
8 GB RAM
Corsair RM650
1TB HDD
120 GB Samsung 850 EVO
GTX 970
Sealed liquid CPU cooler (they didn't offer air coolers that I saw)
No KB, mouse, speakers

All items without manufacturers name could be any brand

Price $2,100

If that is true, they missed a lot of news about Intel CPUs and Nvidia graphic cards and their power efficiency. You could say "You can`t cool GTX 970 with water".

The only way to get to the $999 starter price is:

H97 board
Pentium G3258
8GB Hyperx RAM
GTX960 2GB

They also carry AMD cards but they don't mention that on the press release for some reason. They even do Crossfire:
