HP Unveils the World's Thinnest Laptop

Today at the New York Times International Luxury Conference, HP Inc. raised the bar for the premium PC experience with the debut of the new HP Spectre, the world's thinnest laptop. The HP Spectre and new premium portfolio were showcased alongside the results of the company's collaboration with world-renowned designers Tord Boontje and Jess Hannah. The collaboration features exclusive, limited edition luxury notebooks at the intersection of high-end art and leading technology.

"The HP Spectre is the thinnest notebook in the world, and unlike the majority of other super thin PCs on the market, this laptop doesn't compromise power or features," said Kevin Frost, vice president and general manager, consumer personal systems, HP Inc. "A beautiful Full HD edge-to-edge display, Intel Core i processors coupled with Bang & Olufsen sound and a sexy and thin design, HP amazing engineers set a new standard with the all new Spectre."

 • Powerful Intel Core i5 and i7 processors deliver superior performance versus mobile processors often used in this class of device.
 • Superb entertainment experience with full HD 13.3" diagonal edge-to-edge display and Bang & Olufsen sound.

HP reimagined every element during the design of the HP Spectre to ensure the best user experience coupled with maximum performance. The result is a premium notebook PC that does not force users to compromise on style, function or performance with features such as:

 • Full HD IPS edge-to-edge display featuring Corning Gorilla delivers a superb viewing experience for editing photos, perfecting a presentation, or watching a movie.
 • 6th generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors and a lightning fast PCIe SSD with storage up to 512 GB with up to 8 GB of memory for maximum performance. Integration of Intel hyperbaric cooling system keeps the machine running cool even with powerful processors in a small package.
 • Stereo speakers by Bang & Olufsen with HP Audio Boost technology, a combination of hardware and software to give customers the depth they want.

I highly doubt that the battery will be replaceable, probably not.

Edit: Or could it be running on a couple of AAA batteries? :D

I do sense that it's prone to overheating/throttling issues while gaming/encoding or while doing other heavy stuff though.... :(

Beautiful, I love the gold theme. 4K is overkill thou for a 15" screen.

Nice!
That x360 looks like something I could use at work.

It's not as scary as it looks. I recently had a 12.5" Samsung laptop with similar design, and all it took is ~4-5min to disassemble the bottom housing, blow the dust out and replace a failed HDD. Battery was very similar to Nexus 7 cell, but x4-x5 bigger. Even the clip-on connector was very much alike.

That's exactly my concern. There are a few similar Acer laptops based on i5-5xxxU that throttle due to horrible cooling: my co-worker bought a V Nitro against my advice, which is impossible to use on a lap because its exhaust and intake are almost in the same spot, though it has a dual-fan HSF.

Call it HP and don't trash it anymore :D . I am sorry, I just can't trust them with anything - mouse, speakers, tablet, laptop. That's my experience so far with them .

What they couldn't do a zero edge screen? I mean I understand some bezel, but a premium product with an inch around the screen is downright ridiculous.

It will be similar to the two piece battery in Apple laptops, not serviceable and a pain to replace.

For me, their monitors have always been top-notch, and I have never had any problems with their printers. The printers that I have had to beat into submission have all been from other manufacturers. :D

I've never really used their cheaper things, but their businnes class machines have generally worked very well. Elitebook, Elite desktops... Fine things.

The x360 isn't too bad. It kept up with some of the other samples they sent us and the battery life wasn't too bad either. The downside to it is it feels like you could easily break it if you put it in your bag and kinda tossed it on the bed or had a mishap in the business hallway (if you're ditzy).

The Envy doesn't look half as good as the Spectre.
In my opinion the Samsung 9 series beats them in looks still.

There are laptops thinner than 10.4mm?

Edit: Had a look around and I can't find any. Unless you count Windows tablets to be laptoås.

Yeah they should of gone aluminum over carbon, at least that would help to disperse the heat.

I would not touch it with a pole never mind buy it, it's nice but looks are the last thing i buy some thing for.

10.4mm is about as thin as it gets. Closest competitors from Apple, Lenovo, Acer and Samsung are ~14-17mm thick, which is still quite impressive.
There is only one laptop that's thinner than HP's new Envy Spectre lineup: it's a Toshiba Kirabook (9.8mm), but I haven't really heard or saw this device until googling "Thinnest ultrabook" few minutes ago.
There are some ARM-powered 12-14" netbooks and convertibles with similar thickness, but those don't really count.

Also I dug up this:
www.macrumors.com/2016/04/07/hp-innovation-apple-worlds-thinnest-laptop/

According to this news article HP used some new ultra-thin dual fan cooling system with copper heatpipes, which sounds like enough for 25W Skylake chips.

The Envy range isn't thin at all.
the 15.6" is 17.95mm thick.
The only thin laptop is the Spectre, typical marketing is fooling people with smoke and mirrors by associating the Envy with the new thin Spectre.

That's my bad. I read this right after waking up, and missed the Spectre was 10.4mm. I thought they were talking about the 18mm Envy models.
