The Surge 2 Announced, Incoming to Users' Gaming Platform of Choice in 2019

Souls-like games have gained considerable market and gamer recognition ever since the first entry in the genre, Demon's Souls, made its debut from developer From Software. With increasingly acclaimed and commercially successful games under From Software's belt, game developers started bringing out their own takes on the Souls formula. Entries such as Deck 13's Lords of the Fallen or Team Ninja's Ni-Oh made differing splashes in the market, with various levels of success. Deck 13's latest take, in conjunction with publisher Focus Home Interactive, was a futuresque, dystopian setting in The Surge, which was well received by the gaming community, and apparently, the market as well.

This success stands to reason since Deck 13 and publisher Focus Home Interactive have announced a sequel to The Surge, The Surge 2, which is incoming for PC and consoles in 2019. As most sequels, The Surge 2 will have an iterative take on the original's design, expanding the already implemented and design systems, and cutting the parts that didn't work out so well. "The Surge 2 keeps what fans and critics loved about the original - hardcore combat utilizing a unique, dynamic limb targeting system and deep character progression - while also expanding greatly upon the formula," the developer said in the announcement. There's no information, currently, on the sequels' connection to the original.

Excellent news. I know it wasn't everyone's cup of tea and it wasn't perfect, but I really enjoyed The Surge.
