Toshiba Announces New 2TB Hard Disk Drive for Client Storage Applications

Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC), a committed technology leader, announces its new MQ04 Series 2TB HDD model MQ04ABD200, designed for use in notebook PCs, all-in-one and slim-line desktop systems, and other applications requiring high capacity storage and 2.5-inch mobile-class durability.

The MQ04ABD200 dual-disk model delivers 2 TB of storage capacity in a compact 2.5-inch, 9.5 mm height form factor. The drive's 6 Gbit/s SATA interface and 5,400 rpm performance, combined with a large 128 MB buffer, result in a 34 percent increase in maximum transfer rates and a 50 percent improvement in power efficiency compared to Toshiba's previous 1 TB mobile-class model generation, MQ01ABD100.
"Achieving 2 TB capacity in the industry-standard 2.5-inch form-factor is a big advance in both value and performance," said Scott Wright, Director of HDD Marketing for Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. "With a field-proven two disk 9.5 mm design heritage, the new MQ04 2 TB model offers excellent value and capacity in a space-efficient design."

General availability of the MQ04 2 TB model shipment will start today.

Hopefully they make a version of both. I think hybrid drives need much more than 8GB band at this point. I would think even double would massively improve performance

Still should help lower prices. I don't see how this is a bad thing.

This is extremely frustrating (for me), I've been waiting YEARS for a 9.5mm drive over 2TB capacity and it's still not happening.
yet they can make a 2TB for 7mm and 5TB drives in the 15mm category, but they simply won't bring out anything over 2TB on the 9.5mm.

My 2.5" fileserver is full and will only accept 9.5mm drives.
