Sony will ensure 220,000 PS3 units for March launch in Europe

Now that everyone knows that the PS3 is coming to Europe in March, Sony is beginning to heavily advertise their machine. Of course, a problem in the past has been painfully low shipment numbers on launch day. With only an estimated 150,000 units available at launch in America back in November, it was very hard to acquire a PS3. Sony says that the Europeans should not worry about such a problem, and promised no less than 220,000 PS3's for Europe.

even with a higher European retail price i still expect them to sell out and create that artificial demand Sony is aiming for.

220,000 dosent seem like a lot for the whole of Europe? It'll sell out for sure! Theremust be 220,000 rich fanboys in the Uk alone! Let alone the rest of Europe.

if there are 220,000 rich fan boys then they are all morons, ebay has been selling ps3's imported from the US for the last 2 1/2 months for about £350-£400, prime example: cgi.ebay.co.uk/BNIB-BLU-RAY-60-GB-SONY-PLAYSTATION-3-60GB-PS3-CONSOLE_W0QQitemZ190078942998QQihZ009QQcategoryZ62054QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Also, sony are still idiots for charging £550 ($1100 or there abouts) for the damn thing, although theres no doubt that someone will pay that much.

to be honest for that much money and for the amount of problems the early ps3 had i personally would say it be quite risky and foolish to chance an imported PS3 without a long term sellers warranty so close to the official release even if we Europeans are being ripped off for the product.

I think a lot of fanboys don't care about the price, or the bugs, or the fact that their eBay PS3 won't run any Region 2 games. All the bastards want is an ugly looking box to show all their friends.

Edit: Im sure that most of them are 'unaware' of the bugs, and believe their new toy will run perfectly becasue its a sony!!

Sony needs to lower the price, that is the bottom line. I am sure these will sell out easily. The console is great, but the price is simply way to high.

People don't want to pay 600 pounds for games that they can already play on the 360 they own. Besides, games on the 360 look better, and are much more fun to play online.

Yeah, because all the games available on the PS3 are available on the 360...
