Resident Evil 4 Remake in the Works, Bound for 2022

Capcom has had great success in remaking "Resident Evil" titles from the 1990s. These are not remasters, but rather retelling of their campaign stories in completely remade production designs, with new gameplay mechanics. Riding on the backs of "Resident Evil 2" and "Resident Evil 3" remakes, Capcom has started work on a "Resident Evil 4" remake, according to VideoGamesChronicle, citing industry sources.

Capcom is reportedly working with Osaka-based game studio M-Two on the "Resident Evil 4" remake, and if all goes well, the game could come out in 2022. "Resident Evil 4," released in 2005, marked many firsts for the franchise. It was a comeback title after nearly 6 years of lull, and introduced modern dynamically rendered world, unlike older RE games that used pre-rendered worlds. Industry insider Dusk Golem reports that the RE4 remake has a larger production team than the previous two remakes.

Yes RE4 is awesome but it already looks ok and it is 3ed person over the shoulder shooting already same as the remakes... we want those old REs that had tank controls and what we wanted is RE1 or RE code Veronica Remakes.

Agreed. Do RE1 in same fashion as 2 and 3, then do RE Code veronica from bottom - up. That game needed some rework too. Going at RE4 seems odd to me now. Do that one later.

Sounds good. For the PC version, let's hope they release it on some other platform other than Steam.

Meh... RE4 is already a hella great game, I can't say anything what should be remade. They should remake Dino Crisis.

I don't hope that. It sucks to have games from the same series on different platforms. It can go with the others I have just fine.

I myself am a fan of owning the software rather than it under any of these services that could simply shut down at some point and I am out of luck. But I also have to face reality that those days are over. But if they can diverse by having them on available on more than one service, then I am OK. Doesnt matter to me. As long as they can give a better price.

Games are becoming more like movies in this regard. Why make original content when you can play it safe and re release something that was a hit already. Except when it comes to RE they're already getting to the part where the series had a dip in quality.

I agree. I would love to play RE1 with the new engine and over the shoulder camera.

There were reports about RE8 being in the works. I believe it's supposed to be a direct sequel to 7 and first person.

I secretly hope that this RE4 remake will be a remake of unreleased/canceled Biohazard 4 demo. It had so many good ideas and great potential.

I think this is good news. What it needs desperately are better controls, and then more people will realize its brilliance. Many people do not use controllers in any way, shape, or form. There are some games, of which RE4 may be the pinnacle, that are brutal to use with K&M. There are plenty of articles over the years on it. Even the fixes aren't great. Otherwise it is good game already, and I don't see them messing that up.

The Wii edition of RE4 was an excellent game as it made fantastic use of the Wii remote and nunchuck.

This project has been going on for six years and sounds like it would be preferable to a full remake in a new engine. They're getting close to the end, I hope they get it out before 2022 so that it gets some real attention.

Lots of people don't like the "reimaginings" of games that were fully 3D in the first place. I see why RE2 and RE3 needed to be remade, since they had outdated camera systems, prerendered elements, and were somewhat compromised by their limitations, but RE4 is already a great game. Consider supporting the guy behind the fan HD project, as you can install it over your existing RE4 purchase without shelling out $60. They also went to the trouble of sourcing the original locations for the textures. It's the old game with better textures and models, not a full priced retread like what Capcom wants you to buy.

Yeah, put me in for Resident Evil 1. The rest I don't care nearly as much about. To me Resident Evil 7 was terrible.

I am apparently the only person on planet earth who doesn't sing praise for RE4. I played it, did not beat it though. I was rubbed the wrong way coming from a longtime fan of the fixed camera angles, pre rendered backgrounds, tank controls. Though I really enjoy the ability to use the "modern" controls for example in the HD remasters of RE1 and RE0. The gameplay was completely different and I just am not a fan of the game I guess. I would think that Code Veronica was the next logical step in the remake sequence! It is what the majority of fans are asking for if you check out other related threads over the last couple years. RE4 isn't even in need of a remake since it's gameplay mechanics are already relatively close to the modern remakes of RE2 and RE3. Also for those who are thinking RE8 should be next they also have a leak about that. Called Resident Evil Village with an interesting way of highlighting of the "Vill" in village to spell out VIII or roman numerals for 8....similar cheesy concept they did for RE7 with using the "vil" in evil to spell out VII for 7. I haven't played through RE7 yet but I got the demo for it and was turned off by the first person perspective and never went back. However, I do plan on purchasing it at next future sale and be open minded about the first person view because I am guessing this is the format going to be used for 8 at least if not all future RE titles.

Short version. MESSAGE TO CAPCOM. DON'T DO THIS. DON'T REMAKE RE4. REMAKE CODE VERONICA

RE1 and RE0 got HD remasters, they do not need to be remade. If that was the case of how they wanted to go back to older titles then they should also be doing HD remasters of the original RE2 and RE3....which I would seriously love but c'mon we know that will not ever happen. They are going after the cash cow known as RE4. It makes financial sense to do RE4 over CV, but for fans of the series, not fans of a single game, it is an insult and disservice to us all to think we wanted RE4 over CV

this Resident Evil fan knows all about them, but I think you misinterpreted what I meant. To clarify,

I said HD REMASTERS
skizzothen they should also be doing HD remasters of the original RE2 and RE3
RE1 and RE0 got HD Remasters, those are not remakes. Someone said they should remake RE1 like 2019 RE2 and 2020 RE3
EzioAsI agree. I would love to play RE1 with the new engine and over the shoulder camera.
I was commenting towards that idea....which if that happened would mean RE1 not only got remastered for originally the Gamecube, then a HD version of the remaster for PC, and then a full on remake like 2019 RE2 and 2020 RE3. That is a lot of rehashing that I don't think any company would be willing to entertain. Literally remaking remasters lol. I was using some hypothetical situation to say that just isn't on the table for Capcom in my opinion. Also if that was their line of thinking then they would have remastered RE2 and RE3 too. If they were to do both a remaster and remake of RE1 then why would they do JUST remakes for RE2 and RE3? (ie. imagine 1998 RE2 + 1999 RE3 being remastered in the vein of how RE1 got remastered, which updated visuals, added content, gave some good quality of life improvements to game play mechanics, etc) instead of going straight to remakes for RE2 and RE3. But there just isn't any way they are going to make 3+ versions of a specific title that could be considered true remasters or remakes. I would love to see such HD remasters happen for 98 RE2 and 99 RE3 in the vein of RE HD Remaster but I know it will never happen because it isn't as profitable of a game in comparison to modernized remakes. RE1 had its original and remaster, and then HD version. RE2 has its original then its remake. Same for RE3. They will not go back to remake RE1 in the newest RE game engine, and this same thought process of mine applies to why they wouldn't go back to RE2 and RE3 to remaster the originals in the vein of RE HD Remaster.
