AMD Releases Radeon Software Adrenalin 20.9.2 Drivers

AMD late Tuesday released the latest version of Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition. Version 20.9.2 beta introduces optimization for "Star Wars: Squadrons," adds three new Vulkan API extensions, and introduces a number of fixes. To begin with, 20.9.2 adds support for VK_KHR_buffer_device_address, VK_EXT_robustness2, and VK_EXT_shader_image_atomic_int64, adding to the API feature-set supported by AMD GPUs. Certain games exhibiting intermittent stuttering with RX 5000 series GPUs has been fixed. Radeon FreeSync failing to enable after driver updates without system reboot has been fixed. "X-Plane 11" experiencing crashes when played with its Vulkan renderer has been fixed. "DOOM VFR" artefacting with RX 5000 series GPUs has been fixed. Performance metrics overlay failing to enabled after the system waking up from sleep, has been fixed.

"Call of Duty: WWII" black textures bug in the zombies mode has been fixed. Blocky display corruption in "Detroit: Become Human" has been fixed. Green video corruption when using the Windows 10 Movies & TV app to edit videos has been fixed. A bug with the VRAM performance metrics incorrectly displaying has been fixed. Windows desktop flickering with HDR enabled, has been fixed. "World of Warcraft" experiencing display corruption with AA enabled, with the DirectX 12 renderer, has been fixed. Grab the driver from the link below.

The change-log follows.

Support For STAR WARS : Squadrons

Added Vulkan Support
  • VK_KHR_buffer_device_address: This extension is used to query the device address of a buffer to allow for shader access to that buffer's storage via the SPV_KHR_physical_storage_buffer SPIRV extension.
  • VK_EXT_robustness2: This extension provides stricter restrictions for handling reads and writes that are out of bounds. It specifies that out-of-bounds reads must return zeros and out-of-bounds writes must be discarded. This extension also adds support for null descriptors.
  • VK_EXT_shader_image_atomic_int64: This extension extends existing 64-bit integer atomic support to images, which provides more efficient access than buffers. This allows applications to quickly improve their performance with minor changes to their code.
Fixed Issues
  • Some games may exhibit stutter intermittently during gameplay on Radeon RX 5000 series graphics products.
  • Radeon FreeSync may fail to enable after updating Radeon Software without a system reboot.
  • Screen flickering may be observed while MSI Afterburner is running or enabled on the system.
  • X-Plane 11 may experience an application hang or crash when using the Vulkan API.
  • DOOM VFR may experience corruption or artifacting in game on Radeon RX 5000 series system configurations.
  • Performance metrics overlay may fail to open or appear after the system wakes from sleep.
  • Call of Duty : WWII may experience black textures on the ground or walls in zombies game mode.
  • Blocky corruption may be observed in Detroit: Become Human on some Radeon RX 5000 series graphics products.
  • Using the Movies&TV application to edit video clips may result in green corruption in the clips.
  • Performance metrics may report incorrect values for current VRAM usage after an extended period of gameplay.
  • With HDR enabled, Windows desktop may experience flickering, and performing a task switch while in a game may cause colors to become washed out or over saturated.
  • World of Warcraft may experience corruption issues with anti-aliasing enabled on DirectX 12 API.
  • Launching Radeon Software after a driver upgrade, may cause the Auto OC dialogue to appear with "0 Mhz" when the Auto OC feature has been previously enabled on Radeon RX Vega series graphics products.
Known Issues
  • Enhanced Sync may cause a black screen to occur when enabled on some games and system configurations. Any users who may be experiencing issues with Enhanced Sync enabled should disable it as a temporary workaround.
  • Performance Metrics Overlay and the Performance Tuning tab incorrectly report higher than expected idle clock speeds on Radeon RX 5700 series graphics products. Performance and power consumption are not impacted by this incorrect reporting.
  • Audio may experience instability when connected through an Audio Video Receiver via HDMI on Radeon RX 5000 series graphics products.
  • Modifying the HDMI Scaling slider may cause FPS to become locked to 30.

They will never fix this issue:banghead:
To be fair I found a fix, just mute and unmute one or 2 times and it works.

To be fair, realtek audo and nvidia hdmi audio always had issues too over the years. I eventually just gave up like 3-4 years ago and bought a dedicated DAC with optical cable. Life has been smooth sailing ever since.

It's so weird to me how some games can such specific bugs... like CoD works fine but not in zombie mode until now? lol so weird to me. I will never understand coding. if everything is based off an engine, then I would think the drivers would be coded for said engine not for said games. bleh don't bother trying to explain it to me, i not smart enough lol

They only have four remaining issues left provided nothing else pops up. So it's most likely it will be fixed in the next update as they don't have much to focus on other than those issues & Navi Drivers for RDNA2 GFX cards.

VK_EXT_extended_dynamic_state is fixed with this driver. Seems like some of the reports with the bug tool help.
OpenGL is still useless, but I bet AMD came up with Mantle/Vulkan to just avoid ever fixing it.

VK_EXT_robustness2 is a great addition.

My fix works for now, I need to mute the audio source and then it works.
I'd say computers in general are sometimes weird, you get an issue and then for for no reason it disappears.

Yup, I reported that too when you mentioned it last. It should prevent clipping in most emulators that utilize Vulkan now.

Could you provide the exact make and model of your AV receiver? I had problems with my RX 5700 XT and Onkyo (with HDMI passthrough) before but it seems to be working on now on this new driver. I'm not using the Pro Software driver at the moment.

They still haven't added Hardware Accelerated GPU scheduling into this driver yet.

Thanks. No more scary Mario, and this also fixes some "interesting" triangle glitches that happens without the use of this extension, so it is not only fixed but it also completes its functionality. Emulation and their weird incompatibilities.

You would think that the people who came out with this would be faster to at least have a beta version. This better not be another primitive shaders event.

They did release a separate beta driver back in May where it worked, they just haven't rolled that feature into the main beta drivers yet.

Only for some Navi cards.

I'm not sure why are you complaining. I have yet to see it make a significant difference.

It did in Kerbal for me... Nvidia made a far larger one though, sadly. I wanted the 5700 XT to work. But yeah it did have around a 15% uplift in that game.

Still being tested.

This was also my experience with the driver that was released.
