ICANN dismisses .XXX domain name

Some of you have heard of plans for a .XXX domain name. Like .com, .gov, .org, and .net, .xxx would indicate a certain type of material associated with the domain. Namely, pornography. The .xxx domain name would be wonderful for parents who want to ensure their children aren't scarred for life from pornographic material. And so, ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), who manages all the domain names for the internet, had a big debate over what they should do about .xxx. In the end, they decided that making the .xxx domain name would be similar to censoring the internet, which is not what they want to do. Obviously, advocates for this domain will work hard to make ICANN reconsider their decision.

I think moving all pr0n sites to .xxx would be a good idea. It would be easier to block your kid's access. just enable 'block all .xxx domains' or sumping

i don;t think a .xx domain would censor the internet, it'll just make it easier to tell that its a porno site.

i'm totally for the .xxx domain. its one thing to go out looking for porn. its another to get it forced on you when you think you're going to some other website.

im all for not censoring the net but giving porn its own .xxx would be great as long as porn wasn't baned from any domain besides .xxx its a win win situation it makes the ppl calling for censorship to stfu and we can still have are porn we just have to update our bookmarks :toast:

it seems to work for all angles, it makes it easier for parents to block it, and it makes it easier to find for those looking.

I mean the only peole it hurts are those trying to hide their addiction from their parents/spouse.

It's funny that when you look into it: both religious groups and porn producers were against the move. i wonder if you told the religious peeps that they were on the same side as the porn guys would they have changed their minds?

It's strange that .xxx wasnt implemented by ICANN. Pr0n is easy to find... just google and then follow links and you've got 100's of sites. But if it was all moved to .xxx then it would be much easier for parents for corporate IT departments to put a blanket block on .xxx sites.

It just makes me wonder WHO is on the ICANN board of directors. Obviously, those that run the internet... PR0N KINGS
